Library Manager installation error - "Please check permissions and retry"

Trying to install Halion Sonic 7.1.0 instrument via Download Assistant.

Library Manager keeps giving a permissions error - “[sound file name] could not be opened. Please check permissions and retry.”

I did “Get Info” on the drive in question (the sounds are on an external Thunderbolt SSD), and made sure everyone has read and write privileges, and also did “Apply to enclosed items.” That didn’t help.

I can’t do the procedure described in this support document because I can’t access individual sound files in the installer.

What to do?

Mac Studio M1, 64GB RAM
Sonoma 14.6
Dorico 5.1.50

I’m not sure what else we could recommend if the steps here haven’t worked. It’s possible that our support team might be able to help if they do a remote screen sharing session with you. You might consider opening a support request.

Thanks, @dspreadbury

It turns out I hadn’t tried the most basic thing: turning the frikkin’ computer off and turning it back on again.

I did that just now, ran the installation from Download Manager, and it worked.

After many failed attempts, I was able to successfully (and perfectly) install Dorico and all files on my Mac Mini M1. I completely removed all traces of Dorico/Steinberg from my Mac, installed Java, restarted, then began with a fresh install of Steinberg Download Assistant. I installed one module at a time and everything worked perfectly. Glad to read forums for ideas, BTW.

Welcome to the forum, @dmpbsn. (I read that as “damped bassoon” which conjures an image in my mind of a bassoon with a sock in it!) I’m glad you’re able to get up and running.
