line connecting bar numbers?

Hi everyone,

Wondering if anyone has a creative workaround to achieve the effect of bar numbers connected by a line, as seen in the attached mockup. I see this type of score formatting often, and have come to prefer it over the floating boxes.

Wow – you guys are brilliant! Thanks so much for your time; your methods each solve it perfectly. I had worried about the potential complexity of a separate dedicated instrument just for numbers, but you’ve made it very simple.

I also like that this is easily scalable to include multiple separate “lines” of bar numbers. Much appreciated!
