List of available keyboard combinations for shortcuts?

Is there a way to get a list of available keyboard combinations, or filter out the keyboard combinations that are being used as key commands?

My current method is trial and error, which isn’t very efficient. I pick say, ctr + alt + 7…
… nope. That’s already in use. Try another. Etc.

When trying to create a keyboard shortcut for a cubase, Or for a plug-in where I’m trying to avoid conflicts with cubase shortcuts, it would be nice to know which key combinations are still free.

Or is there some other method of making this process more efficient?

Thanks.

I’m afraid there is no other way than trial and error. This feature has been requested for a long time.
You could extract all key commands in use as a list ordered by their function but that won’t help in this case, right?

What I did - it is quite cumbersome but it will serve you well in the long run:

I made an alphabetic list of all key commands and modifiers in use with two colums: user and default. Most of my key commands are customized and whenever I change a command I update my list. This helps not only to check which keys/combinations are in use but also to look up functions which you only use once in a while. It also comes in quite handy if you want to reorder your key commands in case you need a couple of functions in a row.

It is a pain in the buttom to get there but once it’s done it is a bliss. At the end of the day that got me much faster to a point where I can say - yes, this works just fine, it is perfect for my inidvidual workflow. If I had just picked the free ones instead of the ones that serve my needs best in terms of reachability I guess I would still fix my key commands up to this day.

Someone here wrote a AutoHotKey script that enumerated all possible key commands and which where empty and which used already. I don’t find the thread, though..
There is still my old Key Commands Overview as HTML Page, but it only shows the used shortcuts, so maybe not that useful.

Interesting…!

if only I had bookmarked that post… :man_facepalming:

Do the Cubase default key commands stay the same over the years?

Almost. Newly introduced functions sometimes come along with new key commands, especially in combination with modifiers. But generally, yes, apart from minor changes.
