Thanks to all who have made comments. It’s amazing how fresh ears hear things that my own refuse to acknowledge until pointed out in forums like this.
For this mix I have tweaked the eq of the bass, making it less prominent in the chorus and bridge. Hope I haven’t mixed it to death!
Jonathan
Regarding your other comments, perhaps had you actually listened to the new version, (it’s easy to tell whether anyone has done so!) then I might take more notice.
Actually, I’m not sure what I have done to deserve such a response. However, if what you are saying is a sincere critique then I apologise. If it’s a cynical set of comments then there is little I can do to appease.
You could have posted the latest version in the other thread so there is some sort of continuity.
If it’s so “easy to tell whether anyone has done so”, then why can’t you tell that I listened to the previous version as well as the latest version? I listened to the latest version first through a Mackie CR StealthBar with NCIS New Orleans in the background on the TV about 10 feet away. I wanted to give it another chance so about 15 minutes later I listened to it again through my Shure SRH1840 headphones. Both times using my Focusrite Clarett+ interface.
Anyway, you are the one who is begging for everyone to report a critical examination of every “made-with-steinberg” post. I actually had one in the works, but backspaced my way out of it because I thought it might come across like I was a dickhead. I was reminded of my previous comment …
Having just discovered that Bandcamp doesn’t seem to be registering plays from my link, it’s clear that I was wrong in claiming that you hadn’t listened to the track. I unreservedly apologise for the insinuation.
Jonathan
Scab_Pickens, I stand by my apology for saying you hadn’t listened to the track but I am disappointed in the insinuations you have made about me, personally.
In my post about the lounge, I did not “beg” for a critical examination of every ‘Made with Steinberg’ track. Nor did I suggest that everyone was “in search of some kind of professional evaluation”. I simply asked that people take some time to listen and give some feedback – acknowledge existence – to one track a week, if possible.
Your first comment on this thread was about my choice to open a new one, as if I had no right to do so. You didn’t seem to like my response, either. Does my ability to make a choice – have an opinion – really worry you so much?
In all of your comments and quotes, you have only made reference to what I have talked about. Nothing about the song itself other than a vague “glad it’s the final mix”. These comments come across as an attack of sorts. We have not met, I don’t know you and you don’t know me. How is such a line of commentary appropriate? Just because it’s your opinion doesn’t make you immune from a differing one. Same for me, of course.
I would have preferred to be discussing the track but I feel that you have hijacked the thread, somewhat.
Hi Jonathon, how’s it going mate? Thanks for your repeated interested in my song postings by the way. I certainly do appreciate it. And I’m painfully aware that I don’t often return the favour.
Putting the above controversy in this thread aside, I do like this song. It’s actually very good writing I reckon. From a technical/mix standpoint though it’s not quite there for me - not too my ears anyway, for whatever that’s worth!
I’m just wondering though, for ‘old times’ sake, if you’d be interested in involving me having a crack at it? Putting a “Sherz” spin on the mix… and as such I would of course be fully open about how I approach the mix. Not that I’m claiming any kind of ‘elitist expertise’ of course… but in the spirit of ‘the old days’ in the Lounge, maybe collaborating like we used to do back in the day, perhaps together we could get this track and take it up to another level - I think it has and is worthy of that potential?
I hope this doesn’t come across as offensive in anyway, I like the song, I do think it has merit, and I think with some more focused collaborative attention it could actually be even better and… also a fun project. Your thoughts?
Bring back the better aspects of the old days – absolutely Ian. Always open for another ear. Appreciate your thoughts on the song, too. PM me with contact and requirement details.
It’s been a fantastic experience to work with Ian. His ideas and skills are superlative, he also listened to my wants/needs although I did try to let him have his way.
Personally, I’m rapt with what he’s done and hope that others are as well.
This version sounds much cleaner to me in the sense that the essence of the song comes to the forefront. While there are still some “production gimmicks” in the song they now support the song instead of distracting from it.
Kudos for this very productive collaboration, well done! @moggs I am happy for you that your ongoing engagement in this lounge was rewarded with such a positive result!
