Little "messa di voce" articulation

Hello everyone,
Could anybody help me to find the best way to input this little “messa di voce” (< >) symbol in Dorico? I attach an example by Schumann, Fantasiestücke Op. 73 No. 1 (bar 2).

Thank you!

Hello @lgg96,

For this very piece (well, the 2nd mvt), I created this articulation as a playing technique.

I would select the Ab, Shift+d and type ‘<>’ (no space). Then, with it highlighted, Opt+Cmd + Left arrow (that will move the whole dynamic 1 shift left according to the grid setting (which I would set to 16th for this exercise). Then, to shorten, Shift+Opt + Left arrow.

Thank you both! But I find some little “problems” in your solutions:
In the first, I find it a little bit too big compared to the original sign, and the second messes it a little bit up when combined with other dynamics (I need the sign to be placed in the middle of a cresc. hairpin…).

I don’t see a sign in the middle of the hairpins.

Yes, I know, but the score that I attached was only for an example, I need them for a piece by my own…

You are right. If I remember correctly, the edition I was trying to reproduce (Henle, maybe) used a more elongated shape than yours (but i could be wrong!)

What’s the sign? I have a few minutes to kill… By the way, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything between the hairpins of a messa di voce.

Put a note (different voice and -little- note value) where you want the di voce sign. then insert the sign.
In engrave mode you can change the scale and also suppress playback and hide the notehead and stem. For me that workaround works.
You can also change Start /End-offset.

In engrave mode you also can move the hairpain.

Related: there are some options built in to Dorico, Write mode > Lower Zone.
Shift-D then type in either < or > (depending on which you want first), Return, then click the Messa di voce option, and any others. (No options to put anything in-between.)
