Long wavy lines

I would like to create a long wavy line for slow vibratos (see below).

Wellenlinie

The existing lines suggest too much activity for me.

How can I achieve this?

I would wish a repeatable sign / a longer wave with an amplitude smaller than the existing ones. In the meantime I tried to import a graphic, but this did not work either. Any suggestions?

Perhaps you could use a multi-segment slur?

This is what I created in Finale and exported as a graphic. How would I proceed in Dorico so as to use it as a repeatable sign?

I got it - thank you! But still I think it would be great if a broader line segment could be added in the lines editor panel so as to use it like the other wavy lines. Could there be a hope for a future release?

You can create your own repeatable symbols, and combine them into your own line bodies.

Yes, but the problem is that the symbols are too high and too short for me. Even the smallest tilde does not produce what I want.
The workaround with slurs works somehow, but it is tedious.

If you don’t like the symbols Dorico provides by default, you can create your own symbols with the exact height and shape you want, then turn those into a line in Dorico.

That’s what the Edit Repeatable Symbols dialog is for: total customization

I am sorry, but I did not find the place to do that. What I did: I tried to create a customized sign in the edit lines window; however:
either I can only import letters of certain fonts; I did not find a convenient font;
or I can import graphics, which I did, but then I was not able to save the edits; graphics seem to ignore manual adjustments.
So I don’t see the “total” customization yet :frowning:

  1. Create the symbols you want to put in your repeatable symbols line – if none of the available options suit you, you might need to create your own images in another image editing software and import those
  2. Create your repeatable symbols line using the symbols you just created
  3. Add your repeatable symbols line body to a new line style

That’s what I did; however it does not let me save the edits (the imported picture was too big, so I resized it in the editor, but it could not be saved…

Maybe resize the image in a graphics software and save that as an alternative version? And import the smaller alternative into Dorico? Or find/create a different image?

E.g. in Dorico itself, create a slur or tie that has the size/proportions you want for your line, create a graphic slice around it, export the graphic slice as an SVG, then import that as a repeatable symbol. You’d probably want to duplicate the exported SVG and flip it for the reverse side of the wave as well.

Hi, unfortunately I have to rekindle this thread. I want to do what OP did, create very long vibrato lines. This is for a part in a choir piece where singers are imitating wind sounds (sss, shhh, etc.) Ive tried downloading the graphic op posted and adding it to the repeatable lines. However when I try to use it on my projects it doesn’t appear when clicked.
