Looking for the Right Reverb

I have been using RoomWorks SE reverb for my orchestral music and for vocals.

However, I noticed that reverb makes the music sound distant.

Is that because of the settings?
How do I counter that?

Should I use another reverb plug in?
if so, which one?

Well, firstly reverbs are mostly a matter of personal taste and the way you use them. Having said that, I personally would not use RoomWorks SE to start with. REVerence or REVelation are decent stock reverbs although I prefer 3rd Party Plugins for reverb.
If it sounds “distant” and that is the main issue you are adressing here:

  1. You have put the reverb on a send, right?
  2. You can adjust the predelay to separate the source from the signal
  3. You can pan the reverb to the other side of your signal to achieve separation
  4. EQ your reverb to get rid of the low end and the highs
  5. .A rule of thumb: Always be careful with too much reverb…

There is much more but maybe this will help you to get started.

Thank you, I will give it a try.

Go to Youtube, search for “how to use reverb beginners guide”. I am certain you will find some helpful advice.

I would suggest you take the time to read Nathan Nyquist’s book (ebook) “The 3-Space Reverb Framework” and also ‘The 3-Delay Framework’.

If you are not familiar with these two tools that allow you to create the perception of space in a mix. I believe that with these two very inexpensive books, you will have a lot of answers and you will be well equipped to use them as you wish.
