Maschine is really and truly a self contained system.
yes you CAN use it as a controller, but the way the software works, you either use the controller for
Maschine OR Cubase…not really both at the same time. Albeit, the transport does work in Cubase in Maschine mode.
You want to look / google for sounds to midi notes.
You really need to think of Maschine as a self contained MPC. That’s why it has its own sequencer. And the next machine studio will be even more so. Like the MPC REN 2.
