I saw somewhere that there´s a way to install the old but golden LOOPMASH (VSTi) in Cubase 12.
Does anyone know if this is still possible in Cubase 13 too?
Hope so!
I used this Loop Mash for extremeee sound design and unique atmosphere cinema collages. *(I hated this plugin for the intended “beat slicing”, not my world *
Here are a few of my sounddesign loop experiments with LOOPMASH, if you are interested in:
(only Hall fx added)
I just throw in my own samples or full mp3 songs (!) and use veeery extreme parameter settings, like massive timestretching mangling etc. I´m a fan of dark soundtracks and Silent Hill style too.
It’s such a shame that LOOPMASH is no longer included, Licensing reasons, if I remember correctly.
It would be really great if Steinberg would revive it.
Maybe they contact the original developers and take over the code (?)
Hi ASM,
“Loopmash fx” has absolutely nothing to do with the old “Loopmash” VSTi, only the naming is identical.
You can use “Loopmash fx” plugin for audio realtime stuttering, reverse, “tape stop!” effect e.g. Great plugin too, developed by steinberg.
It’s a VST plugin. Why wouldn’t it? What, according to you, has fundamentally changed between v12 and v13?
(I don’t have v13, so I’m not able to try it. It works fine in 12 though.)
My observations: It is true as it says in the cited thread above. The SynthEngine.vst3 with Mystic, Prologue and Spector is accepted, the LoopMash_x64.vst3 with LoopMash2 alone is not accepted, it also requires the file pulseOSC_x64.dll. Both require the C11 eLicenser license. The instructions refer to Cubase 12, but the same applies to Cubase 13.
Apart from that, not every VST3 plugin works automatically in every host, there are limitations, especially regarding plugins supplied with Steinberg applications.
Indeed, it’s a rather interesting replacement. It’s an excellent choice, very simalar to Loopmash.
For those who want something even more sophisticated, NI’s Maschine software wouldn’t be a bad alternative either. More complex, but almost without limit, except that of the software itself. A Daw in a Daw.
As I mentioned at the beginning, I don’t use the Loopmash as a normal loop chopper.
Loopmash has special synthesis options that enable completely different sound results. I often throw in complete songs or noises etc., pitching, stretching and experimenting with these synthesis settings. Then you get very special rhythm pad sounds like the ones above.
So I don’t agree that other similarly designed Loop Choppers offer what the Loopmash 2 can do.
I re-installed Loopmash2 some weeks ago because of another topic in this forum as per the instruction you can find in this topic. Works like a charme when the USB dongle is attached.
While I use it with Cubase 12 I see no reason why it should not work the same with Cubase 13.
WHY THE HELL is it gone to begin with???
Steinberg loves to do this. Provide a wonderful plugin, or VSTi, allow you to become dependent on it, then take it away from you on future versions. Why not just keep it as an option in the installation? I just don’t get it.
I mean, I even notice that the “loopmash content” is still available to download right from within the Steinberg Downloader… so, WHY is it still there if it’s no longer offered with Cubase.
Steinberg, I love you, but you frustrate the %!@^ out of me sometimes.
It was a 3rd party plugin, not a Steinberg one. I know the label read “Steinberg” but it was still 3rd party. Either the license ran out or the plugin required some work on the code (change of copy protection?) and the original author wasn’t interested anymore.
