Hi, I’ve always had my Cubase Projects on an external drive. While starting Cubase, the drive became disconnected, and Cubase can no longer find the audio files. The pop-up says “Audio files are missing.” Does anyone have any idea how I can get the audio files back? I’m absolutely devastated! I am using now Cubase 14 Pro. The files missing happened with an older version.
When you get this message you get the option to look for them. Have you done that and directed it towards the folder the audio is in? You do use separate folders for each project?
Hi, zo te zien aan je naam spreek je Nederlands?
How do you mean seperated folders? Every song has his own name and is saved with this name in Cubase Projects.
Cubase should let you know that there are missing files and how you would like to retrieve them.
I usually (if this happens) choose it to search a folder.
The best thing is to also choose, “search folder” find the folder where your song is, and let CB search it and find the files automatically.
Ok, thanks. I will try this, although I have allready searched in folders but could not find them. Is it worth to search in all folders?
Do you know where the missing audio files are stored? If so, you only need to search that folder.
Ok, thanks. Today I will spend the whole day searching for the audio files.
I mean create a separate folder for each project. If you don’t every audio file, for every project is in the same folder. This means if you try to consolidate a project you could end up deleting all other audio. It is essential you keep projects separated in their own folders.
Ah, thanks!
In all honesty, I would search the main music file on the hard drive you used to work on your project. or even the entire hard drive.
Are you using Windows? If so, there’s a strong chance that when you reconnected your drive, the OS assigned a new drive letter.
Hi,
Hi, You can find the path to the project’s audio folder by accessing the library (Menu: Media, then click on Library).
You will have access to audio and video files as well as to the trash can.
Click on audio and select an audio file, right-click and select “Open in Explorer.” The folder will open automatically, or you will see the path to the file.
I hope this helps.
Hi Nahnou, thanks! I am going to try this! Nothing worked so far. Hope your idea will work.
I cannot find ‘Library’ in ‘Media’.
To access the library Type Ctr+P .
If it doesn’t work for you can you make a screen shot of the Media menu?
Ok, found it. The path says it should be in ‘untitled 30’. However, ‘untitled 30’ is missing. Could this mean it’s been overwritten?
No, if you didn’t delete the folder I think it is still in your hard drive, maybe in Documents folder (windows drive)..
If you don’t find it, make a search of untitled 30..
Good luck
Thanks for your advice and effort! Eventually, I’ll definitely know if they can be recovered, and then I’ll have them again.
I had the same problem a while ago. Now, before starting a new composition, I always start by creating a folder in which I save my project, so that all the audio files are saved in that folder…When you don’t do it this way, and you save your project without specifying the audio folder, Cubase creates a folder called “untitled n…” to store your audio recordings.
