Lost file

(my OS is in Finnish)

Interesting – I don’t see that in the Finder on my Mac!

Instead of using the command to open the folder, try this command to list its contents:

ls ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/iCloud~com~steinberg~iosdorico/Documents/

This should list all of the project files in the folder. You can then for example copy a file called “project.dorico” to your Desktop folder (say) like this:

cp ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/iCloud~com~steinberg~iosdorico/Documents/project.dorico ~/Desktop

That command did absolutely nothing.

That suggests that the Dorico folder within your iCloud Drive is completely empty.

Indeed. But I worked on a project for three days, coming back to it time and again, and it was always in the hub. In my iOS settings for the Dorico app, iCloud drive is (and was) selected as the saving location. Then, after the crash that I reported, it was suddenly gone from the hub - and apparently it’s lost forever. I found Dorico for iPad a very nice sketching tool, but it’s just too risky to use if it loses complete files. If a ‘Save As’ function were added, I would come back to it.
Then again, I just created a test project in iPad, and ran your code in the terminal. Still nothing. And if I go to look at my iCloud drive on icloud.com, there’s no Dorico folder there. Should there be?

The Document storage option in Settings doesn’t actually apply to Dorico: it shouldn’t appear there. It will be gone in the next update, replaced instead with an option in Dorico’s own Preferences dialog that specifies whether projects should be saved in local storage or in iCloud Drive by default.

There should indeed be a Dorico folder showing up inside iCloud Drive: this is the main issue we’re currently trying to unpick and are waiting for some assistance from Apple. The folder does exist, and shows up on some devices, but not on others.

I can’t explain how your project has been completely deleted. Obviously this should never happen.

I am providing an update to my “lost files” issue. I’ve managed to save my work now, but not without a lot of effort and consequent confusion from having multiple file versions. I think the entire
Save" function is unstable (sorry if that’s not the right software troubleshooting word). On my last project, I got two options when I hit the save/share button - “save to files” and “share with iCloud.” I was able to save in multiple locations and made sure to send a copy to someone else using iCloud. However, for the project I was working on yesterday, at first I only got a “share with iCloud” option and it took me forever to actually “see” see the file somewhere. But then it switched to “save to files.” The software did something else weird. I set the file up so a viola part is shown on the top line and the piano part on the bottom. Mysteriously, the software saved a version with the viola on the bottom and the piano on top. I think another issue is that the software takes some time to actually save the file completely. I’ve closed the Dorico software without being able to “see” my new project in the projects listing, and then come back later or overnight to then see it in the list. Anyway, all of this is quite aggravating, although I have to say, this is extremely powerful software and I love it, but this bug needs to be addressed post haste.

The Development Team is well aware of the file-saving difficulties folks are having and are working on a solution and an update. Unfortunately they do not have a time machine.

Hello, same problem on an Ipad 8 with the latest version of the Dorico app. My files disappeared twice this month. The latest issue happened while I was working on an imported score from iCloud. After minimizing the application for a very brief period, the score I was working on disappeared from the “Recent Files” section. The file is not in “Files”, and not in iCloud, albeit an earlier version of the file is in iCloud (the one I imported from). There might be conflicts with the file name, as I’ve been asked to rename the file when I first imported it in Dorico. However, it worked fine for days, until the issue happened. I was without an internet connection at the time the file got lost, as I usually work offline. Any expected timeframe for an update with a fix? I would say it’s a severe bug which should have been found during testing, before release.

I agree that it would have been ideal for these problems to have been found during testing prior to the release, but they weren’t: neither our group of beta testers nor our internal testers encountered these issues, and not all iPad users are currently experiencing these issues either.

However, you can rest assured that we are taking these problems very seriously and are working diligently to resolve them as soon as possible. There are two angles of attack: firstly, we are trying to find a solution to make it possible to see the contents of the Dorico folder in iCloud Drive from within Dorico itself in the event that the Dorico folder doesn’t show up in the Files app; and secondly, we are in touch with Apple to ask for their support in finding out how to ensure that the Dorico folder does appear in Files.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and good luck on solving the problem.
