Does anyone know of a Option setting which will prevent Lyrics Above the staff from colliding with the staff? As shown in my screenshot, layout works OK in the first line of the song, where there is only one verse, but not in the second line, where there are 3 verses.
Or is this a bug which I must work around for now by adjusting spacing manually? Using Dorico 6.0.22.6052 in macOS 26.
Dorico support replied saying the problem was that in Engraving Options > Lyrics > Vertical Position, I had set Minimum distance from staff and Minimum distance from other items to 0. So the significant difference between the first line and second line was probably not the number of verses, but the fact that first line has some note stems and beams above the staff while the second line does not. Also, from the diagrams in those options, it appears that Dorico measures from the text baseline and ignores below-the-baseline so-called extenders or tails which is only present in characters such as the comma ‘,’ in my screenshot, ‘g’, ‘y’ and ‘j’. So this affects only lyrics placed above the staff. In my opinion, Dorico should measure from the bottom of any extenders.
But it still leaves more space on the first line, so I still think there is something weird going on. I don’t see any way to remove my “override” of moving the lyrics which I did last week as a workaround, so I can’t prove it in this project.
I’ll do further study if I ever see this issue again.
