I am new to Dorico from Finale. A hymnbook was given to me to maintain. The files were written in Dorico 4 and I have Dorico Pro 5. I had to change the font during the upload because I didn’t have the original font. Sometimes the lyrics wording collides - where do I change font size to fix this?
Change font sizes in the library->paragraph style menu. Ordinarily Dorico won’t collide lyrics like this. You might check to see that you don’t have casting on (layout options) and you haven’t made any manual changes in engrave mode (like forcing a number of measures onto one system).
Hello and welcome to the Dorico forum.
You made a screenshot. The question at this moment is, did you screenshot the Galley View or did you screenshot the Page View?

That worked - thank you!!
Like rschrock, I am working with a Finale file and have a similar problem. I haven’t been able to get my lyrics properly spaced with your advice to him, but am also having a problem with divisi parts that have different lyrics. I am attaching a screenshot from page view showing the problem with divisi lyrics colliding.
I’m assuming since you’re working with an imported Finale file that you are relatively new to Dorico. Excuse me if I’m being too basic. Some general tips I’ve found with lyrics, spacing & importing via XML.
-Check xml import options in program settings. Uncheck all the boxes to start with. You probably won’t need to select any unless you have very specific needs. (I prefer to let Dorico do its spacing and layout magic rather than what is in the xml file).
-Consider your page size and rastral size for optimum spacing. (I like a 6mm rastral size)
-Layout options, note spacing, make sure the box ‘make space for lyrics’ is checked
-Turn on signposts. Make sure there are no system or frame breaks present. (At least to start with).
-Go to Engrave mode, staff & note options (on the left side) and make sure there aren’t any manual adjustments. In the Engrave menu there are options to reset those items.
-Once all your music, lyrics, articulations, playing techniques, etc. are entered, start working on the layout if any adjustment is required. Before doing anything with Engraving->note or staff spacing items, look at the layout options, note spacing and vertical spacing options and make adjustments there.
-You can also make adjustments to the lyrics paragraph styles and try different font sizes. Some fonts space out differently than others.
(As already mentioned, unless you know you need it, turn casting off in the layout options. If you need a certain number of measures per system or staves per page and lyrics collide, you’ll need to either reduce the font size or reduce the rastral size).
Sometimes I have had issues with lyrics assigned to a stems down voice colliding with a stems up lyric as in your picture. If these tips don’t help, the note spacing tool in Engrave mode is what I’ve used in the past.
James:
Unchecking all boxes for importing the XML file took care of my problem with the lyrics. Thank you.
