I’m working on a big operatic project.
The lyrics are of course under the staves in the full score. But I would need to have the lyrics over the staves in the cues of the parts, as customary.
But I’m afraid this is not possible without breaking the link between score and parts.
Any idea?
Thank you very much in advance.
Stefano
There’s no option to override the placement of lyrics in cues at the moment, but I’ll make a note of this as something that we should add in future.
Thank you so much!
I have the same question: Is there maybe an option now with Dorico 5? Or a workaround?
I’d like especially to just have the lyrics as cue (over the stave) and not the notes
Hi @Mathieu_Front and welcome to the Forum!, and ciao @stefanorabaglia (even if much time passed )
Here a workaround:
- duplicate the singer player
- put it in a group
- copy the music and lyrics to this duplicate
- (hide noteheads, stems and ledger lines)
- put the lyrics Above
- uncheck the duplicate singer player from full score
Now you can use cues, addressing it to the singer inside the group, and the lyrics will be above, (and no note visible). You may want to adjust the full bar rest position, and the beginning and end control points of the cue, and activate the property Hide rests around cues.
Dorico file example:
cue of lyrics text.dorico (552.4 KB)

I would never have thought of that. Thank you so much for that great solution. Next time I’m working on a choral piece with orchestra I will definitely use it, which means, a lot!
Thank you @Christian_R for the quick answer and the workaround!
Now I’ve another issue: How can I show the lyrics above a tablature (tablature only view).
Thank in advance,
Mathieu
Hi @Mathieu_Front, here my try to create what you asked for (I understand that you want to show only the lyrics over the TAB):
- create a new player with Zero Line above the guitar player
- copy the singer notes and lyrics (maybe you only need the lyrics…), and hide the notes, stems and ledger lines
- put a local open time signature for the cue staff (you loose unfortunately multi bar rests consolidation with this)
- check this player to be visible in the Guitar layout where you have only tab active (you need to rename the layout, and the cue player to display the correct labels on the part, and to not loose track of your cue player…)
- set the layout options for bar numbers and vertical justification etc. as shown in the screenshot/s (notice there are some unusual negative values there needed, and unchecking the automatic resolving collision option)
- set the engraving options as required, depending on the size of your staff, etc… as shown in the screenshot/s
Dorico file example:
only lyrics cue in tab layout.dorico (503.1 KB)
