M-audio projecmix i/o in cubase13 faders jump down to -oo when touched and released

Hi everyone.
thx for reading this topic

i recently got my old M audo projectmix io from under the dust in my garage(it was wel sealed in a plastic bag).
now i tried to hook it up to cubase 13, the way i used to do this in the
studio > add midi remote> mackie control, and set the midi ports

everything seems to work qwll, exeps when i touch a fader to take control over a channel, this channel drop to unity. when i use the mouse to manipulate the fader on screen the remote follows.

when i flip the remote to panning or eq, the faders do not jump down, so i think its a cubase command that goes to the mackie control script

i tried several solutions like
instal legacy drivers,
switch firewire card fron VIA toTexas Instruments,
ad a new device to midi remote(and all the faders knops and stuff) to test the other settings on the faders like jump scaled …

here i noticed that the fader gives 2 commands 1 is to get the fader valeus the other is a note 0
i think that is the problem but i cant get it to stop interfering
i am at the end of my ideas of what it could be to get this to word

i hope someone has a solution for me an my projecmix or i am doomed to go out and get something new

thx to all of you

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Which MIDI Remote Mackie Control emulation script do you use, please?

Hi Martin
Thx for the fast reply
I only used the build in cubase script(tried the akai also with no succes)
for the remote assitant, i just fiddelt around without script i tried it to see if the faders would respond in an other way.

Hi @bernaertsjo , I have my projectmix working well on C12 / Win 11, so don’t give up hope yet!

I’m only using the Mackie Remote Protocol, I would recommend disabling the MIDI Remote script for now and try to get the basic one working.

  1. Does the projectmix boot up in Cubase mode?
  2. If you move the faders to random positions before opening cubase, do all the faders drop down to -infinity when you open cubase?
  3. When you load an existing project, do the faders move to reflect the current levels?
  4. Add a new MIDI track and add MIDI Monitor as an insert. Move one of the faders to see what values it’s sending. Here’s an example from mine:

I’ll try to help depending on what happens next.

Another thing to check - on the Mackie Control setup, are you using the Control Surface MIDI for both In and Out, and not the External MIDI?

hi jpspoons1
also thx for the help
in reply to your questions and remaks

  1. yess , the desk start in cubase mode.
  2. when cubase is not running the fader move freely, whitout the little restrant as is it would if cubase was running. and they stay in posissiion as i reseale them.
  3. when i start an existing project the desk wil load all the fader in a relative position to the cubase faders on screen. only the ones i touch wil drop down , it wil move to any position if i ride it but drops bak down on release, with the mouse on screen it will stay as i set it
  4. for you midi test this is wat i do
i take fader1 move it to the top and release it
below is the export(if unclear i wil take it again in sceencapture

thx for looking into this

Hi,

OK, you are not using the MIDI Remote script, you are using the old Mackie Control Device. Which is fine, and it should work.

I don’t see the MIDI Note if you touch the fader. I can see only the one when you release the fader. Once you touch the fader, I would expect Note On G#6 with Velocity 127.

@bernaertsjo I think it would definitely help if you screengrab the MIDI monitor. You don’t need to move the fader far to generate a lot of info  so just touch it really. I was using fader 6 which might help for comparison.

You did seem to be getting two notes there (G#6 and C-2?) - would help if we could see more clearly - thanks.

Could you screenshot your MIDI port set setup section as well please? You seem to have a few numbers in there like “2-…”, “…(1)”, just wanted to check for possible duplicates.

ok i touched ch 1 and ch 6

looks like the pichbend is getting negative commands all the time
ch 1

ch 6

and this is wat i believe you need as midi port setup

im not realy a midi pro so i just dabble around in it

thx guys

Hi,

I’m wondering, why the C#7 is on MIDI Channel 6. From the Mackie Control specification, I would expect it on MIDI Channel 1. Only the Faders are using MIDI Channels 1-9. The rest is using MIDI Channel 1.

i think thats my bad, the text fil was to big and i misfired when copying

I was getting C#7 for that channel too… but I wasn’t getting the -100 values, and I wasn’t getting the C-2 happening either.

I’m out of my MIDI depth here as well but definitely looks like @bernaertsjo 's projectmix is behaving differently than mine…

Hi,

I can see the MIDI Channel 6 here on the screenshot.

that i do not know

i have done a reset of the desk yesterday
no chang in reaction

Ah sorry I understand now.

I meant select the fader for channel 6 on the mixer - did you actually change the MIDI channel in use @bernaertsjo ?

i tried them all
ch1 - c#6
ch2- A6
ch3-A#6
ch4-b6
ch5- c7
ch6-C#7
ch7 -D7
ch8 D#7
Master -E7
rhey all get the negative pichbend and the c-2 note

yes i did change it on the chanelstrip
else my ch 1 fader sterted jittering

Hi,

Actually, if you don’t set the MIDI Channel to Any, then we don’t see the real MIDI Channel. We see the MIDI Channel of the track.

Or you would need to put the MIDI Monitor on the MIDI Input.

That means this is not it. This seems to be correct then.

good morning

so i created a new project wiith a miditrack

add midid track
dit the same touch action onch 1 and 6(i cleared the list in between)

seems the same result to me

then i changed the midi channels in the stip to 1 in the inspector

on fader 1 same result .
on fader 6 i get this

maybe this means something?
