Mac 14.7: [XXX] could not be installed

Since a while now the Steinberg Download Manager does (still) download updates, but the installing routine fails and exits with a message like the above.

Is anybody else having this problem? I did clean cache and also Preferences, re-installed the download manager, but now, with the latest wavelab update, the error still appears.

(I can install manually, so it is not a big problem; still I wonder what could have happened…)

Maybe SDA doesn’t have the required permissions enabled.

In System Settings → Privacy & Security:
App Management → Steinberg Download Assistant → enabled
Files & Folders → Steinberg Download Assistant → Downloads Folder → enabled

I’m on 15.2, but it’s probably similar on 14.7.

Thank you very much, @valvehead !

Under “App Management”, SDM was indeed not listed. I wonder if that is a new feature of a recent update.

The fact that SDA is not listed under App Management is perplexing. If reinstalling the latest SDA version doesn’t fix it, then I’m not sure what needs to be done. I’m primarily a PC user, so someone with more Mac experience may be able to help.

That said, there have been several threads about issues with SDA lately. The problems reported were mostly related server connections though. It seems that you’re able to download but not install applications, so it’s probably unrelated to the issues that other people are having.

Edit: SDA not SDM. Derp.

Don’t know if it matters but it’s ‘assistant’ not manager

Today I have a new problem:

I gave all SDM, Activation Manager and Library Manager full disk access and other rights I could find an option for.

I know that with tomorrow there is the very latest version of SDM required, and I do have that one (v1.36.4). Maybe things look different tomorrow? Hmmm…

Ok, it seems to be resolved now. After clearing out the “HD]/[Users]/Library/Preferences/” folder, the SDA can download and install software in one go.

In “[HD]/[Users]/Library/Caches/” there were 2 folders for Steinberg, “Steinberg Library Manager” and “Steinberg Media Bay” (as mentioned, I deleted both). While the first one was recreated again, the second has not been… so far… Not even after re-downloading and re-installing Halion. Maybe therein lies the problem. I keep observing that situation and report back in case anything important happens.

Meanwhile thank you guys for your support and help! Much appreciated!
