I am on Max OS Sequoia 15.6 with Cubase Artist 15. I am being prompted to update directly to Tahoe 26.3. Should I?
I assume you mean Apple is prompting you to update ?
Iām on Sequoia 15.7.4 and donāt plan on upgrading to Tahoe until Steinberg says it is okay for Cubase & Wavelab.
Thatās right. Apple is prompting me to update, but, like you, I thought it would be wise to wait until Steinberg gives the OK. I should know this, but can I update to the latest āapproved-by Steinbergā OS?
Welcome to the forum!
Iāve been running the entire suite of SB products on macOS 26 since it was released without any issues on either my MBP M3 Max or Mac Studio M3 Ultra. Iām on 26.3 now. I run the driverkits for my DigiFace Dante and RME UFX III, respectively. The real point of caution for me would be ensuring required 3rd party plugins/drivers/apps are supported, though if they have Apple Silicon versions already, you should be good.
I have other dependencies that dictate I stay on current releases, but if you donāt have a compelling reason to upgrade outside of Cubase, then maybe just ride it out for a bit until you have time to test in a VM or similar.
no man dont do it
unless you REALLY need some special function from Tahoe
always keep at least a year behind unless for above reason
(sometimes security updates are needed for Python or AI stuff but i never upgrade a complete OS)
reason im saying this, SPECIALLY when you have a working system, is that macOS can break so much stuff. And then its very hard to go back.
Also, make Supersuper or similare BEFORE upgrading in case something breaks ![]()
Thanks for all the replies, Cubase compatriots. I will take all of your wise words to heart. I used to teach Cubase in Toronto years ago but Iāve been out of the studio biz for about 15 years -lots of changes, and certainly more to come with AI. You can expect to find me on here again asking for HELP when I get stuckā¦
no way Iām upgrading, at least for a while. Every time Apple upgrades their system a lot of things donāt work anymore. I know Iāll have to replace my 1300 euro audio interface for instance, which is working perfectly well on my current system.
I can totally relate. I was looking forward to using my perfectly functional RME Fireface 400 interface with my new Mac Mini, but no way -Firewire has been totally discontinued and is now incompatible. Grrrā¦
yep, I once had a firewire soundcard and that was the last time I ever bought a piece of machinery with an Apple specific port. next Mac I bought didnāt have Firewire. But thatās pretty old stuff!. Stick to USB, works any time. For nowā¦.
Can anyone confirm if the GUI freezing issue been fixed witn Tahoe 26.3 and / or Cubase 15.0.10? I downgraded back to Seqouia and the problem went away but it keeps prompting me to āupgradeā
Hi there MikeAsh, I encountered such freezing issues when I upgraded to Tahoe 26.1.
26.2 was a bit better (most of the time almost as stable as with Sequoia). Today Iām on 26.3. Will keep you posted if I still notice some freezing happening.
Its gonna crash no matter what OS you use. I say that from experience.
Cubase works for me. Maybe you are using some broken plugins.
