Macbook for Cubase Pro 15

At present, I’m using a Mac Mini M2 Pro and a Windows 11 laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad) and am thinking that life would be much easier if I upgraded to a laptop. I could use this as a desktop as well with a suitable dock. Apart from Cubase, I use Dorico and Native Instruments, but never have more than about a dozen tracks.

I’m inclined to go with a Macbook - would an Air be enought or should I save up more for Pro?

Advice most welcome.

hi ChrisW, looking at the geekbench stats, going from your mini m2 pro to a current mackbook m4 air would gain a slight speed advantage in both single and multi-core usage. I recently went from an m1 imac to an m5 macbook pro (the 2025 version just prior to the latest refresh). Single-core performance improved dramatically, but offline rendering was maybe 20% improvement. With Apple, there’s always something new and faster around the corner, but Steinberg moves at a different pace.

Thanks, that’s good to know. I’d not thought of looking at Geekbench. It is hard to keep up with Apple these days, but I’m still happy with the performance of the M2 Mini Pro.
