macOS bug: Double click in Cubase 15 hub often not working

When I double click to open a template in the Cubase 15 Pro hub on macOS, it often doesn’t work. I figured out that it only works when I don’t move the mouse pointer at all. When both clicks land on exactly the same pixel it seems to work. That’s not standard macOS behaviour. Very weird.

Does anybody have the same problem?

Sometimes I have to click it another couple of times too… I had kinda just attributed it to my aging Magic Mouse tho… interesting that it’s doing the same for you.

Same issue here.

Double click has been an ongoing issue not only with the hub but also tempo and other transport options, I think they have ironed out the transport and tempo issues but yes hub still has problems, seems to be an apple issue

They have? Still not working for me!

And I’ve not seen a dickie birds response from anyone that its an issue they’re looking into.

Cubase registers clicking while moving the mouse as a “click & drag”. This is an issue throughout the program which affects users with high mouse sensitivities, because clicking the mouse can cause slight cursor movements and a single pixel is enough to trigger a drag.

A common solution to this problem is for developers to create a movement threshold where a drag only registers if the cursor moves by more than a small number of pixels (usually 3 to 5 pixels), preferably using built-in OS values for consistency with other programs.

As far as I know, Steinberg hasn’t yet acknowledged this issue or done anything despite many threads complaining about it.

Has anyone tried slowing down their mouse speed?
I never had the issue and I use a mac with a trackpad, a Kensington trackball, and (until the battery permanently died) a magic mouse too. One thing they all have in common is that I slowed them down in the OS settings.

Mouse sensitivity has to be lowered to unusable levels to get rid of the issue entirely.

And users shouldn’t be expected to change hardware settings and workflow for all their software to accommodate a single program’s poor UI design.

Very strange, it was a nightmare a few versions ago, clicking about 6 times would finally let me edit the tempo manually, now it works as expected. Hub usually works but now and then it does not like my apple magic mouse.

I’ve given up trying to use the tempo box, I just use the up / down arrows to get what I need. I’ll be screwed the next time I need a fractional tempo!

Joking aside, there are several typed boxes that are incredibly hard to access, and its been like this for nearly a couple of years.

Cubase is the only app that has this issue - not Wavelab, not SpectralLayers, not Dorico and not Logic, ProTools or any other app I use on this computer.

As a programmer I think Steinberg implemented something themselves that is normally done by the OS. Maybe they should have a look at some macOS libraries. I think this also applies to other parts of the UI.

Same problem. Double-clicking worked fine in C13, but now, in C15, I have to click on a project file in the hub and press enter. Pretty annoying, but I got used to it by now. Still, I think they should fix this asap. Makes no sense when a new software is released and it regresses to an inferior state, even with little things like these.

Thanks!

OK, Steinberg. We found a regression bug :lady_beetle: ! feature-request

Why did you mark this topic as solved when the issue hasn’t been solved? Now Steinberg is much less likely to take notice and actually solve it.

And this is not really a bug, it’s a design flaw. The new hub registers clicking while moving the mouse as a “click & drag” whereas the old hub didn’t. Try clicking & holding while moving the mouse up and down in the new hub and you’ll notice the project selection changes. Someone likely made a conscious decision to implement it this way.

Again, this is not specific to the hub and affects any part of the interface with “click & drag” functionality like tempo, inspector volume, etc. People with high mouse sensitivities are more likely to experience it than others because it increases the probability of slight cursor movements when clicking.

The core problem is that Cubase does not seem to have a movement threshold or any other solution to prevent accidental dragging and improve clicking reliability. This is extremely unusual especially for professional software with over a million users.

As I and many others have pointed out, Cubase has a terrible UX and UI design which is causing users a lot of frustration. This is just one example of how it violates common standards and design practices for no apparent reason.

Yes, pressing Enter is a only workaround.

Why doesn’t anybody from Steinberg reply? This is an important bug. And we narrowed it down pretty much.

I’m just starting to use Cubase and I am having this trouble with renaming tracks. M4 laptop macOS Tahoe using the trackpad - no other program has this issue but neither I nor my daughter could double click on a track name to rename it. Funnily enough with tempo I have not had a problem, nor have I noticed it in the hub (whatever that is I don’t know yet).

This is pretty frustrating - please can it be fixed.

It’s always been like that. I’ve complained about it here on the forum, but I’ve just learned to never double click in the hub. Instead, I select the project or template, then click on the Open button.
