Anyone running this?
Andy
So far, I personally havenāt heard about any major issues, but if you rely on the smooth operation of your Steinberg software and hardware, we advise against updating to macOS Tahoe for now, as we always do before all test results are available. Results will be released here:
Iām hanging to update but I will wait until Steinberg give the official go ahead.
And itās not just the software. Whatās more important to me is whether my UR44C will also work with Tahoe. And as long as thereās no official OK from Steinberg, Iāll be wary of updating. And why should I? Thatās why I only updated to 15.7, mainly because of the fixes.
I have a dual set up with a MacBook Pro and MacStudio in my main studio. I updated the MacBook Pro (M2) to try out prior to going full on in the studio - no problems as yet. I have used outboard audio interfaces (Focusrite 18i20), and various midi instruments/samplers and all seems to work OK. However, I will hold back on my main set up incase thereās a bug I have yet to come across.
My only frustration is the time it takes Steinberg to OK any upgrade when beta versions are around a couple of months before the release.
Donāt you rather want to have a rock solid OK than a premature OK?
Thorough testing takes time with a complex and powerful DAW such as Cubase. Not to forget: a lot of customers are pros and they lose time, work and clients if the OK was announced prematurely.
Absolutely! However my comment was about the time taken to get it checked, not that they do it. ![]()
Probably this is because they canāt determine if itās okay with 100% confidence, since the nature of beta releases is that it will change. If thatās so, real testing can only start after the official release of the update.
One thing I read is FireWire support has completely gone, so just a warning to anyone with a FW interface.
Iām running Cubase 14 Pro, and I JUST rolled the dice and updated my OS to Tahoe 26.0.1, and I am SO regretting it. Cubase crashes so often itās not even usable from a practical standpoint. Iāve reinstalled everything, including all of my plugins, and itās still doing the same thing. Feeling a bit helpless.
There is something else at play then. Many of us updated to Tahoe day 1 (I did the week before), and Cubase is running fine just as it always has here.
Iāve often seen people complaining that Steinberg doesnāt test during the beta phase. As others have already mentioned, testing in beta comes with significant risk because beta is not the final stage, things can still change. If Steinberg were to announce that the software is compatible during beta just because it happens to work at that point, the final release could introduce changes that break it. That would create an even worse situation, potentially causing users to lose trust in Steinberg altogether.
As a software engineer myself, and ALSO willing to update to Tahoe, I understand their position and, need to hold my horses until they actually come up with the final testing with a trustworthy result.
Reading those warnings of Steinberg about compatibility AFTER Apple has released its new MacOS makes me think - why are you, Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH, a global DAW development leader, always waiting for the new release of MacOS every time, every year, year by year, instead of contacting Apple and making cooperation in this matter, solving the compatibility issue before it came along?
Did you not read the post from @daniel_seabra_music right above yours? It explains very clearly why Steinberg (or any other software developer with good sense) will not give the all-clear until testing on the final version is complete.
I did. My question is not about beta versions, but about the possibilities of closer cooperation with Apple BEFORE they release their final version.
Understood, but remember, āSteinberg Media Technologies GmbH, a global DAW development leaderā is a bug standing next to Appleās skyscraper. There is nothing they can do to influence this situation. Apple, rightly, will simply say āwait until the final release is outā the same way they do with every other vendor (in the tens of thousands) that runs software on their platform.
Someone sees it as a bug vs. skyscraper, another one says "We will never surrenderā and takes the prize. Surrender vs. giving it a try. I donāt know which side Steinberg takes in this, so I am asking about it here.
P.S. IMHO Steinberg is not a bug compared to Apple, that sounds pretty incorrect and surely not respectful.
Define ācloser cooperationā.
Iām going to stop here but:
Steinberg annual revenue - circa $30M
Apple annual revenue - circa $400B
Iāll stick with my description. Itās not disrespectful, itās just a fact.
KT66, Yes, letās stop here. First of all, I respect your opinion. But⦠you are comparing revenue made from sales of iPhones, Macbooks, Earpods, DAWs (Logic) etc all together with the sales of DAWs and Audio Interfaces⦠DAWās market share is a bit better tool for this, IMHO, but still not the best one, and there is no bug-skyscraper picture there.
If you are sure āThere is nothing they can do to influence this situation.ā - ok, it is your choice. Mine is to ask Steinberg what do they do to improve the life and work of their customers who pay them money. And maybe to support Steinberg with some ideas how to do it, e.g. to collaborate with Apple in testing of their macOS with Cubase and Nuendo for making improvements for both sides still at development stage.
