Macro with PLE failed to run correctly

Hi everyone! Happy to be here. I am a cubase user since the early days of 2001. Over the years I worked without having too many issues and after my studio opening (2014) everything went more or less, smoothly. A few days ago I decided to re-arrange my workflow so I can focus more on ears and less screen when mixing for clients. So, controller became more active and “smart» and macros/PLE came in handy.

Unfortunately one issue has arise using one of my macros, (quite simple I can say), but seems to not work as it should. It is a way of implementing a VCA spill style function so I can focus on bigger projects to my VCAs or Groups etc and using the visibility agent to look only on the related channels. (Selecting the result tracks)

Now, the issue is that when I fire my macro, on my mix console is working, but on the project window selects all the tracks. Other times it’s not working at all and only selects all tracks.

I know macros can become unstable when are big but here we are talking of a 2-step one.

If anyone can help find out what happened I will be very grateful! Thank you

Macro:

-Show all channels connect to the fist selected channels
-PLE preset:

  • Container type, equal, track
  • Property, is note set, is hidden

P.S. on the project window selects all tracks

Hi there, I think that this command works as expected only when we have the mixConsole window open and has the focus. Then, if you want the project window tracks to mirror the mixConsole, you have to have the “Sync Project and Mix Console” setting checked.

Dear m.c.,
Thank you for your reply! Yes, I suspected that, so I tried before asking in the forum to add one more command, which is to open the mixing console to make sure that it is in focus. Even when I have the sync between mixer and project windows, it does not work all the time. I believe it is either a bug, or the commands are not executed all the time, or maybe not in the correct order. I believe there is no time for Cubase to “grab” the macro.

I will check again and update the info here.

In this case perhaps it would be worth to try adding your command in the Pre-Process Commands section:

And if you have a command to be executed afterwards, you can try placing it in the Post_process Commands section. The commands in this section will be executed only after the PLE is finished, so you won’t have to worry about the order of execution.

You managed to reply before my update info and probably the solution, which is fact-logical. The Mixer is a toggle window and therefore you are not sure when the app will choose to reverse it. If you are inside the mixer window, every time the macro, as you suggested, works wonders! On the other hand, if you choose to have any channel (in my case VCAs, Groups, and FXs docked in an L/R zone, then the macro fails because those are always visible no matter what.

For what you proposed, it would be great but I am running 10.0.40 where this is not yet improved. Thank you again!

P.S. I have not found a way to focus on the mixer with a macro. I think bring to front is for the project window

How many mixer windows do you have in Cubase? In Nuendo we have four.

I usually only use the mixer window to verify routing and sometimes insert plugins, but never really for mixing. So when I tried to set up a VCA-spill type macro PLE it was actually not that hard. I always have mixer #1 set to show everything and it is always closed. That way I knew that if I triggered the PLE it would open the mixer, do the agent command, and then closer the mixer. For all other mixer work I would use the other mixers.

So if you have more than one mixer you could do it that way. Just a thought.

Also, what controller are you using?

Hi Mattias and thank you for your input! I just figured this out!! We have 3 in total. the first is the main and the other 2 are for what you propose, or any other use. I will check this out and maybe this will be the final solution for now.

I have an Allen & Heath console which in version M, you have a 24-track remote with plenty of knobs, soft keys, etc, that you can use. I have 4 GM devices running most of the functions I use when mixing, to use less my mouse. With a little help from Bome, I can have it follow my mixer regarding the auto bank change and of course selection.

Actually, I just added the macro to one soft key, so any selection can do the VCA spill. :stuck_out_tongue:
