So? What’s good about seeing the folders only in the arrange window?
Wouldn’t it be much better to SEE the folders in the mix window, too, so you can hide/collapse larger projects and have clear vision?
Logic has 3 hierarchies of folders! !!!
i really really want to be able to enable so that when i create a folder, it automagically group all tracks within that folder to a bus/aux.
Is there anyway to do this?
That is what this feature request topic is for. We want that, too.
I will rebuy Cubase Pro if they add this feature.
I totally agree with this request and I voted for it and I have posted a feature request also concerning Folder Tracks.
I want Folder Tracks to be shown in the MixConsole and have a sync option so expanded Folders to be expanded both in the Track List and in MixConsole.
If you are interested you can read and vote here
Let’s hope Steinberg will rectify what is commonplace and must have feature enhancing efficiency and workflow to any other DAW I can think of!
So many comments, didnt read them all.
I also agree this should be an option, perhaps right click on a folder track and convert it i to a group track so that any tracks within that get routed automatically to the newly created group track.
Perhaps also an option that can be enabled/disabled so that any future tracks dragged into that folder get routed automatically to the group track.
This would be the feature tha makes me switch to cubase for good.
Just switch for evil instead.
At the end of this very long thread, I think consensus has been reached, and that Steinberg have noted this request. I would be surprised if it is not added as a feature sometime in the not too distant future, and we will be happy to welcome you as a new Cubase user.
this is great to hear! thanks for the update!
Just wanted to add my two cents here. I didn’t take the time to read everything in this topic maybe it has been said already, but it could be highly interesting that Group tracks could behave like a folder track when other tracks are routed to it, without removing the existing Folder tracks. The change has to me made at the Group Track level so the Folder Track feature isn’t removed and can still be used like a folder.
174 posts (at the time of this post) by even fewer postees (post-its?) out of how many thousands (millions?) of Cubase users? - I doubt if that is consensus.
For my part, Steinberg can do what it likes, as long as I can have Group and Folder tracks that behave as they currently do. Options in the Preferences, new track types, whatever. And as long as they do it bug free, the first time round.
Please don’t do this Steinberg.
Keep both the Folder Track and the Group Track. Just upgrade the Folder Track to include inserts and routing.
@wavefunktion What advantage would it have to be that way and not the other way around? Like keeping the Folder Track as it is, just to organize the tracks, and instead make the Group Track expandable when other tracks are routed to it, in which case the said tracks are automatically displayed in the expandable section? This sounds the most logical to me.
This would not remove the source tracks from the track list, these would remain just like they already do and would display the audio/MIDI data. Group Tracks would only show their automation counterpart on the lane. Of course there could be an option in Preferences that could be used to toggle between “show automation” and “show audio/MIDI data” (in which case the user could simply hide the source track so it only shows under the expandable groups), but in both cases, tracks that are used in multiple groups would show in each of these groups. Any editing done would then reflect on each mirror track.
This is why Folder Track must continue to perform its primary function, which is simply to store other tracks. We still need that feature to arrange our track list properly!
There’s absolutely no need for a complicated thing such as “when i create a folder, it automagically group all tracks within that folder to a bus/aux”. We already have the Group Track for this. When you drag and drop a track on the Group Track it would simply be added to the group and be displayed there, just like if it was a folder. See the Group Track as the “audio” counterpart of the Folder Track.
I am not the only one to have this reasoning :
The advantage is that the user doesn’t need to create separate Group Tracks in specific circumstances where the desired processing and signal routing can all happen directly on the Folder Track itself. If you need a Group Track, than you create a Group Track, if a Folder Track can accomplish all of the processing and signal routing that you need than that means you don’t need to create a Group Track. It’s simple. Another advantage is that you could route Folder Tracks into Group Tracks if that was desired. It’s a better workflow and project management in my opinion.
Folder Tracks would retain their ability to store, collapse and expand tracks, I never said that functionality would be taken away.
I am one of the people who propose to add a totally new track class.
A reason for this is that neither folder nor group tracks allow to freeze the track. I would like to see such a new track class to be able to freeze the track.
It would be great to be able to switch on the group editing and possibly also phase coherency on such a track, as we can on folder tracks.
Yes! “Tracks in the folder to automatically route to its corresponding group channel” just like Reaper does is quite essential for me.
In Nuendo I keep adding tracks and always end up searching any missing tracks that are not routed correctly. When making music it’s the same thing. Sometimes certain tracks are not routed to drum group channel and so on in spite of them being organized in a drums folder together.
I want to reduce the time and human errors when adding a track and routing the track to a group channel!
