Make Graphics the default window?

I am new to Dorico and while there are many things that are worlds more intuitive compared to Finale, I find it annoying that every time I go to the Print window, I have to reselect “graphics” to export to PDF. Is there any way to make graphics the default? I know this sounds nitpicky, but how many people print directly from the program? In the vast majority of cases aren’t people creating PDFs to send to other musicians, editors and librarians, and in the case of printing don’t most people create PDFs before mass printing?

Different people have different workflows and use cases. I print to paper far more often than I export to PDF.

you did so in Finale as well? Because in finale I used the black and white of PDFs as a way of double-checking for collisions, given that they were so darn frequent in that program.

Yup – I didn’t mind looking for collisions on-screen, and I could always turn off display of colors if I wanted.

Interesting, I was incapable of seeing them in finale for some reason. Anyways, I’m curious how frequent direct to print workflow actually is… awaiting others responses

Hi @piping_hot_licks, I found out that if you save your project with the Graphic button activated, Dorico retains this setting when you reopen the file.

But unfortunately this setting seems not to be addressed/remembered if you save as template.

Thanks, I just tried it and it works. I’ll see if that holds true consistently. For whatever reason, sometimes in the same project I have had to click “graphics” over and over, every time I go into the print window.

I’ve done the same with Finale. Here I use print mode frequently, but when I want to produce something really neat, I print it out first as printed sheet tells all minor collisions better. So in my experience print mode in Dorico is half way to print PFD and proof it in and PDF reader app in Finale. I’m personally quite happy with Dorico’s default.
