Hi. I am wondering if there is a way to make the distance between systems on each page equivalent, and same with the distance between each staff, no matter what.
I end up spending a huge amount of time undoing Dorico’s actions (avoiding collisions). I want all of my decisions to move things to be completely conscious.
Making manual adjustments is not the way to go. As Janus suggested, it is better to let Dorico do its magic. BUT that doesn’t mean you are at the mercy of the program! Setting the Library options (layout, notation, and engraving) can do most of the heavy lifting, leaving you with very few adjustments to do at the end. Honestly, I used to spend so much time making adjustments with the other program - may it rest in peace - that I sometimes feel guilty that there is so little I have to do beyond entering the music!
It takes some time to learn how to get the settings so that you get the results you want – don’t attempt to do it on a deadline – but it is time well spent and it will be well rewarded!
Ask here on the forum and the wonderful people here will help you, explain how to do things, and even show you how to get what you’re after!
Very helpful. Thank you. I find the “magic” that Dorico does tends to be overdramatic, and uneven, making it look unprofessional to my theater-copyist-minded brain. I understand it is somewhat just a debate on aesthetics, and I tend to prefer a more old-school look as if I were hand-notating on staff paper.
