Make the timeline bar easier to handle - how?

Hello community,

I’m a Cubase user since the Atari ST times and I’m with Cubase xx PRO since version 7 or 8. I got used to changes in handling the tool even if it did not always help make things better.

Recently I purchased two large high-resolution monitors with vertical 2160 dots and horizontal (combined) 8960 dots. It is great to have such a large high definition area to work on with multiple editors of Cubase 13 PRO open.

But:

my eyes have wakened (I just retired) and although I have a new pair of glasses, I have to run the scaling of some GUIs at 130% to be able to read text in the menus. I found a good zoom factor for Cubase but there is one thing I’m struggling with.

It is the handling of the timeline bar at the top of the project window. By click in (on) it, there are multiple functions one can execute.

  • Set loop start, end (Ctrl+left or +right mouse button)
  • Move the loop (if you hover the pointer in the upper half) when you see a hand
  • Move the cursor (if you hover the pointer in the lower half) when you see a cross-arrow.

But since it is pretty narrow, I often involuntarily execute the wrong function. If I could make it broader (vertically), this would be a lot easier to handle.

I tried to find a way to enlarge just the timeline bar (without enlarging the rest of the project window) but I could not find any fix.

Does somebody in the community have an advice?

Steinberg: is this something you can put on the To-Do list for the future versions?

Thanks, and take care
Bernd

Keyboard key commands is going to be your friend here.

Try the command “Locators to Selection” (default key command P).
This is a great command and I use it all the time. It sets the left and right locators to your current selection, be it a range, part(s) or events.

See above.

Holding down Shift+Alt+Left Mouse button allows you to set the project cursor by clicking anywhere.
There is also a setting in the preferences that lets you place the cursor by clicking in an empty space.
I personally prefer the former as it allows you to click anywhere, on top of Parts and Events even.
