Applications: Cubase 13 Pro, Toontrack EzPlayer Pro, Kontakt 7.
Ok, so I have not found any topics or videos dealing with this, so if someone have an idea where to find, great.
But here is my problem.
In Reaper this is dead simple. Create a track, add Toontrack EzPlayer Pro, add Kontakt 7 drums and boom, your good to go hitting the play button within EzPlayer.
But now I bought Cubase 13 Pro… and while many things have changed since v6 (yeah I know) I can’t believe how difficult this is…
Now, both Kontakt 7 and Toontrack EzPlayer Pro are identified as an ‘Instrument’. So how do I make EzPlayer Pro built-in play feature play through Kontakt 7? Which steps do I have to make?
It feels like I have to make one Instrument play through a second instrument… But how?
I’ve not used EzPlayer Pro, but if it sends out MIDI Data as EZDrummer etc does then all you need to do is create an instrument track with EZPlayer on it.
Then create an instrument track with Kontakt on it.
Then set the MIDI Input of the Kontakt track to be EZPlayer.
Ensure that the Kontakt track is record enabled and then the MIDI data being generated by EzPlayer Pro will pass through to the Kontakt track.
If you need screenshots explaining it let me know.
Hello ‘kijumptoes’
Thank you for the reply…
Yes that would make a lot of sense, and that is what I tried to do. However I did not get any sound doing that… Which made no sense to me…
Now, not that i believe on ghosts, (and especially ghosts in shells), but after installing Kontakt 8 Player I now achieve the desired goal. I tried everything with Kontakt 7 connection-wise but could simply not get any connection between the two. Now I can achieve the desired goal in Routing that I want… Both in v. 7 and 8.
I don’t know why this didn’t work before or why it works now…but it does…
You have to make sure that you record enable the receiving track, because, depending on your settings in Cubase it’s possible that you clicked away from the track and the record enable stopped - i’ve done that before and it’s confused me for a bit!
If ever in doubt, then add a MIDI Monitor (Via MIDI FX) to your receiving track so you can confirm what MIDI data is being sent into it (Or not as the case previously):
There is also a transformer that allows you to remap MIDI notes too, this is handy if your EZPlayer drum hit notes differ to the kit in Kontakt.
If it’s something you make use of regularly you set everything up how you like, and you can save as a track preset for easy recall in future.
