After experiencing an issue with unusually high Audio Performance and audio clipping (running only vst’s) in Cubase 14 Pro (Windows 11), I remembered reading something about single-core usage versus multi-core usage and how DAWs generally rely on single-core processing. So I looked into my settings and saw that I had selected “Multi Processing” in the Advanced Settings section of Studio Setup. I deselected this item and noticed that my Audio Performance meter went down by almost a half. I am no expert, but I thought that this information might prove useful to someone running into the same problem.
Exactly the opposite, on my end (system details in my profile) : after unticking the Activate Multi Processing option, the average audio performance, with my usual sketch project loaded, goes from more or less 12-14% to something like 25.
So, could you provide more informations about your setup, beside your OS, especially ones related to the processor used and eventual BIOS/UEFI settings ?
I would be really surprised if disabling multiprocessing yields overall better results. What it effectively does is limit Cubase to one CPU core. All other core won’t be used, and ASIOGuard is disabled, too.
It might be that in some special cases, it might actually be better, as of course cpu and thread-synchronization inherently has some overhead, but I guess that for most systems and most projects, it doesn’t help. Certainly not in the two projects I just tested, it got way worse.
Here’s my general specifications from dxdiag.exe:

I utilize the onboard sound processing hardware (Realtek). Not having done any in depth debugging, I’ll only say that disabling “Multi Processing” yeilds much better results.
I would include a screenshot of my Studio Setup settings, but I don’t see an option to upload pictures.
