Maschine Mikro MK2 and Cubase Pro 8

I’m about to purchase a Maschine Mikro MK2 to compliment my Komplete 9 Ultimate package.

I will mainly be using it in plugin mode through Cubase 8 and hopefully using it to control Groove Agent etc too…however, I’ve been searching around these forums and the Native instruments forum and see that some people have had issues using the Mikro like this in Cubase 8 64 bit.

…just wondering how you’re getting on after the recent Cubase update/patch?

…I’m beginning to wonder if I should go back to a Korg PadKontrol.

Any input would be gratefully relieved

Hello,

so you want to use maschine as a host for all the komplete instruments? in native maschine control mode?
And control others with midi mode is no problem, just set “maschine midi in” active in “all controllers”
and if maschine is in midi mode you control the selected channel. I also do this that way but with maschine MK I.
But this must work too with maschine mikro for the pads!!! Or where is your problem? don´t know how to setup?
There is also a battery template for maschine micro!!

Uwe

Likewise i’m using Maschine in either plugin mode or MIDI mode to control things like Groove Agent.

I’m not sure why Maschine Mikro would have any particular problem.

That’s perfect! Thanks to you both  That’s exactly how I’d like to use it…I’d just seen some people saying that it (Maschine) crashed Cubase 8 in plugin mode (especially when looping to record) so I wondered how everyone was getting on these days.

Will place my order! Can’t wait to get started!

Cheers, Kat

My Maschine Mikro MK2 doesn’t work in Cubase 8, it crashes instantly. This happens with versions 2.2 & 2.3.

Falling back to version 2.1 works, but won’t let me use the newest features and expansions.

Hi, thanks for sharing …that’s one of the things I’d seen people saying - along with looping bars to record crashing Cubase 8 etc. Hmmmm, maybe it’s a Maschine issue if you can roll back to earlier versions without problem… I didn’t know you could use earlier versions of the software…I’ll bare that in mind when I buy.

…just out if interest, did you have Cubase 6.5 or 7/7.5 in the past and use Mikro successfully? I upgraded each time so could always run it in an earlier version til things are sorted either way.

I have saved the old installers, I don’t think NI provides old versions. I have used it successfully with 7.5, but after installing 8 it has started to crash in 7.5 too go figure. BUT! I have upgraded my soundcard and now I’m using Asus Xonar Muses edition. So it might be the Asus drivers, might be Cubase. Who knows. Still it’s peculiar that 2.1 works beautifully (in both 7.5 and 8).

The plot thickens!! I guess I’ll have to take a risk and see what happens… I take it everything works as it should in stand alone mode without Cubase?
Do let me know if you have any joy fixing it or if you find what causes it. Lots of luck

I’m afraid I’m not very technical and always get stuck when these things happen…I just want to make music! These days we all seem to be spending our creative time fixing things and making our gear and software make friends with each other lol!

I’ll go for the Mikro still…I’ll have to fetch my old faithful Windows XP, Pentium 4 and Cubase 4 PC out if the worse comes to the worse…I made so much music on that system. So stable lol!

I have the same issue. It’s nightmare!

Oh no! You too?! This isn’t right!

Which version of Maschine software are you running? Are you in plugin mode in 64bit? PC or Mac?

It’s so odd that it’s working for some and not others…I wonder if we all list our specs/plugins we might find a common theme?

Do you have another DAW you can try it with? I have a free copy of Ableton Lite…if I have issues I’ll try it with that to see if it’s a Cubase thing…

Have either of you ever put a support request in to Steinberg or N.I? Perhaps someone can check the crash logs and maybe figure it out so that you can get up and running again!
My Mikro is in the post but if it doesn’t work, I’ll keep posting on this thread and see if we can get to the bottom of it!

Kat

So i use cubase artist 8.0.5; maschine2.2.3 all 64 bit in win 7 of course 64 bit and noticed no problems so far!!!
and i have the old MK I maschine the big one not micro

Very good to know  This could just be a system by system problem…or a plugin conflict I guess…possibly even an ‘MK2’ problem…I’ll be very interested to see what happens when mine arrives. If I have crashes I’ll have to post the Cubase crash logs and see if anyone technical can figure out what’s happening…

My computer specs are in my sig…a slightly older PC by today’s standards…since I reset my 'puter at Christmas, I only installed and use Cubase and N.I’s instruments…my only other plugins are Waves, Vallhalla and Klanghelm.

Keeping everything crossed! :open_mouth:

Just an update for anyone else who was having issues with Maschine working with Cubase 8.

Well, I’ve had my Maschine Mikro MK2 and the Maschine 2 software for a couple of months now and unfortunately, it’s given me nothing but trouble within Cubase Pro 8. Even after the update, Maschine is still crashing when used as a VST. Sometimes straight away. Sonmetimes after 15 minutes or so. Sometimes the freezei s so bad that Ctrl/Alt/Delete/End Program (Cubase not responding) doesn’t work and I have to pull the plug. Never a good idea!! Maybe it’s my computer spec (see sig), maybe Cubase 8 doesn’t like Maschine. I don’t know…and I’m tired of trying to get them to play nice with each other.

It’s not ideal, but thankfully, I still have Cubase 6.5 installed and it Maschine works ok with it so far…I can use it as a VST instrument to lay down the drums and record the Midi into Cubase…I can also do the same with Maschines Instruments and can also switch to Midi mode and all works as expected. Obviously, having upgraded to C8, I’d rather be using that, but at the moment, I’m composing in C6.5, then mixing the audio stems in C8.

In hindsight, (personally of course) I think I should have gone for a Korg PadKontrol as I didn’t want to use the Maschine software as my sequencer…I wanted to continue to use Cubase.

Anyhow, I really hope you’re all getting on ok and those of you that had problems have found solutions

Hey guys.

I am using Cubase 8.0.10 and Maschine MK2 2.3.0.0 and I cant remember the last time it crashed on me. I am currently running OS 10.9.5 on a late 2013 macbook pro.

I havent been on the forum in a long time otherwise I would have chimed in earlier. Hope you all got it working properly. Cheers.
