I can see Galley View is essentially Finale’s “Scroll View”. However, there is unnecessary wasted screen real estate with the color-grade backdrop and big margins. I want to fill out the working space with music and staves as much as possible, using Dorico’s excellent Instrument Filter. What is the best approach here? We don’t need the “page backdrop”!
I think you just need to find a suitable zoom level appropriate to your specific project.
There is a setting in Preferences > General for the “Overscroll amount”, which is how much blue there is around the edges.
There may be a reason why having more is a good thing.
Yes, I’ve seen that and have it set to minimum. But still I have this useless blue backdrop that needs to be moved out of the way. I just don’t understand the need to have that background, when all I’m doing is inputting music. The full window ought to be devoted to staves, not decoration.
As I suggested: change your zoom and the blue will diminish.
True, but you still have to maneuver the screen around to hide it, when it shouldn’t be necessary.
What would make more sense to me is “view bookmarks” that save score position and view percentage.
(Sorry) I don’t understand. I zoom in and the blue space gets smaller… what more do you want?
Finale Scroll View!
It’s Dorico Galley view!
If you don’t like the background color, change it:
That’s not the point here. It’s the wasted screen real estate for a view that is supposed to be solely for input (like Finale’s Scroll View). There is literally no need for the backdrop that is meant to present contrast for a page of paper, like in Page View.
Can you not zoom in? I have to say I’m not I understand why this is a problem.
Can you provide a screenshot, showing exactly what’s wrong?
You can set a key shortcut for a specific Zoom Value :
You can also use ctrl-scroll wheel to zoom.
I believe what you are after is a Dorico equivalent of “Auto Zoom” – fill entire view. I don’t think it exists, unfortunately.
It’s not that we can’t zoom, is that we have to do so and adjust the view every time in order to remove unnecessary “window dressing”.
DerAbgang is correct. An auto zoom feature would work well
Have you tried setting a default zoom level for Galley view in Preferences?
Default zoom only gets you a part of the way there. I flip through instrument filters and each require a specific zoom.
A simple Auto Zoom (fill the view) like most DAWs have is a reasonable feature request.
Recently I discovered that the functionality is technically already there, but it’s only exposed through a bug in the Edit Page Template window.
Besides the fact that it is a bug, I rarely use Engrave Mode before all my notes are input.
