Maximum Audio Levels - Buzzing sound

Today I opened Artist 14 and when I opened a new project I was presented with the screen seen in the attached .jpg. I get a loud buzzing noise and can’t add a track. I’m also not seeing my connection from my MOXF8 in channels 3/4. What the heck is going on? Thanks for any help.

MOXF8 connected via USB to my computer and running Cubase Elements 14.

If it helps, to my knowledge the MOXF8’s USB is a 4 in/2 out device.

Thanks Solar. I did have a mapping error at one point but have no idea how to resolve that. Yamaha/MOXF documentation is great but they reference older versions of Cubase. I’ll keep at it.

There’s some kind of loop. What audio interface are you using? Are you using the MOXF8 VST editor?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I just plug the USB output from the MOXF8 to my PC. I do see MOXF8 VST in the settings but I don’t think I use it. Just before I started having problems I had started Cubase without first turning on the MOXF8. I didn’t think that would be an issue as I’ve done it before. Anyway, I’m seeing channels 1 and 2 and but 3 and 4 anywhere in the Cubase setup settings. Thanks for any help. I’m new to this setup with Cubase and the MOXF8. Dave

Hi XLColdJ … to clarify, I’m using the A/D Input on the MOXF8 as the audio interface. Thx

Just guessing!

Is it a ground loop? Have you connected the equipment and the computer to two different power outlets?

What do you see in your Audio Connections Inputs and Outputs tabs? You might need to re-add the correct bus for your setup–you might need to check on the returns that are configured in your MOXF8. Sometimes the relevant “Visible” ports in Studio Setup for your device (right under Audio System) will become un-checked, so you’ll not be able to add them.

I suspect that the audio from your MOXF8 is going into Cubase, and back out to your MOXF8, and back into Cubase. In the VSTi setup for my Motif Rack, I get the same feedback loop if I switch from my SPDIF to my Virtual 1 and Virtual 2 return ports.

Hi Buer, interesting point. I did earlier in the week but I just plugged in the MOXF8 and my PC to the same power bar and I’m getting the same result. I started Cubase and opened a new project and get the screen below.

Thanks XLColdJ. I’ll try that tomorrow. I’ve just spent the day trying to figure this out and I’m going to stop for the night. Thanks for your input. Hopefully I’ll have good news tomorrow. I just can’t think what happened to cause this. Thanks everyone who has responded. Much appreciated. Dave

Thanks for your suggestion XLColdJ but no luck. Another frustrating day and all I can come up with is the attached screen. I have the Steinberg USB drivers installed but Cubase can’t see it. All I get is the following message.

You are referring to the Yamaha/Steinberg USB driver from this page, right, not the generic Steinberg driver in Cubase?

What does your driver selection screen show in Cubase?

In addition to what @Psychlist1972 asked–have you tried to click on “Unmapped” in that window"?

Yes, that is the driver I installed. In Cubase it shows the Steinberg driver.

Thanks XLColdJ. I’ll try again tomorrow. I’m giving this a break after a long frustrating day.

Can you post a screenshot of where it shows that driver in Cubase? Not trying to be a pain, but a lot of folks mistake the generic Steinberg driver for the device-specific ones.

Hello Psychlist1972. Here is the screen shot of the driver I’ve installed.

In addition, I saw in the System>Sound setting in Win11 that there was an entry for the MOXF8 in the Input section. I deleted it and the noise went away but then when I tried to add a track I received the mapping error that I posted earlier.

Thanks. But I meant in Cubase there’s the screen where you specify the driver you are using. That’s what I was asking for a screenshot of.

If your Windows sounds settings are impacting Cubase, I suspect you have the wrong driver selected from within Cubase itself.
