The measure repeat tool worked like a charm on the first of four percussion parts for an orchestrated Cumbia, but my next percussion part had a repeated rhythm that slurred into the next measure. When I created repeats, the slurs were lost. I’ve attached screenshots of the original rhythm and the one with repeated measures. For now, I’ll fudge it using laissez vibrer ties or slurs to hidden notes, but the development team might want to look into this for future iterations of Dorico. Thanks!
Aren’t those slurs supposed to be ties? There are special ties for percussion, with no tremolo at the start or at the end. Have you tried those?
Alas, in any case, I suspect it’s the same problem than with repeat endings (1. and 2.), you’ll probably end up faking those with l.v. ties.
I went back and forth about whether they should be ties or slurs. (In Cumbia, the percussionist shakes a large gourd upward and then comes down quickly into a staccato snap. It felt like two movements to me, hence the slur.) My work around this time was leaving the first eighth note so Dorico had something to slur to, then hiding it (as well as hiding the 3.5 rests that remained in the measure). I’ve attached a screenshot.
For future reference, where can I find the special percussion ties?
Check here, the tremolo with release thing. But I’m afraid you can’t use it with the tenuto and staccato. It’s either one or the other.
For what it’s worth, I don’t see a problem with using slurs in this case. When the original engraved tie convention started, the engravers were copying from handwritten scores (not always the neatest) and who is to say the autograph copies may not have intended slurs rather than ties?
