Hello everyone,
Is it possible to write this measured tremolo (18:24) and that can be played correctly by dorico?
Thanks in advance for your help
Hi @Dgege, possibly there is a complex calculation with nested tuplets to accomplish correct playback (I will wait for someone else to make it ).
Meanwhile there is the funny method (I mean it is funny and somehow enjoyable to do) of using an extra staff, where you write your real notes (for Playback).
Then you can delete the signposts for the start and end of extra staff: the notes will remain present and will playback in the background.
Then you create a simple dotted-quarter three strokes tremolo (you need to write the second dotted quarter using Force Duration, to be able to apply the tremolo), and set the 18 as Music Text (creating a text > right click and Insert Music Text… (there are also other methods with nested tuplets if you search the Forum or look at the end of this post*), then filter for tuplet, and insert the 2 figures. Set their size at the same size of the original tuplet).
Then change the appropriate Engraving option for the tremolo as desired:

Add-on (using nested tuplets):
(*) Here how to make the 18 tuplet tremolo (and to avoid using the Insert Music text step):
Create a 18:24 3 tuplet and then a nested 24:18 3 tuplet:
Well, there is (it took me a while!)…
If you do a 18:24y, and inside it, a 24:18y, you got it!
Then, you hide the one you don’t need to display (the 24:18y):
Hi @charles_piano, yes, meanwhile I already added that at the end of my post (But it doesn’t give the correct playback, so the trick with the extra staff is also needed)
Oh, you beat me to it
This must be a pretty slow tempo if thirty-second notes are to be a measured tremolo.
Here is another approach:
Give the bar with the tremolo a time signature of [3+3+3+3+3+3]/32 and slow to 3/4 of the current tempo. Give the following bar a time signature of 3/4 and resume the previous tempo. Then hide these time signatures and tempo changes.
For the first violin, create a 24:18y tuplet inside an 18:18y tuplet and hide the inner tuplet. Then enter two dotted quarter note chords and apply a three strokes multi-note tremolo. In Library > Playback Options > Timing > Tremolos, set Minimum number of strokes for playback of unmeasured tremolos to 4.
For the second violin, enter the eighth notes inside a 24:18y tuplet and hide the tuplet.
Here you go I knew that you could have done the magic, @johnkprice!
