So, in the midst of refining previous work I found it would be much more efficient to combine multiple .slp files (jobs).
“Import Layer” does not allow selection of .slp files, so that’s not how SL works…as far as I can tell.
What does allow to get layers from one .slp into another is open (both/ multiple) jobs and copy>paste layers from one .slp to another. The issue is that envelope automation does not appear to be included in the destination .slp.
I also tried “export layer” and then “import layer” and envelope automation is also not included in the imported layer after export.
Is there a way to do this without having to manually re-write all the envelope automation?
Or is the envelope automation written into the paste (mixed the audio)? If the envelope automation is written into the pasted layer, that would not be ideal as further mixing is likely in the destination job.
In my particular case, I only had one layer with envelope automation and very few events written, so it didn’t really matter. I just wonder if such functionality is possible. I did not find much info on this in the Operation Manual for SL11.
You can duplicate the content of basically a whole project to another one via Layer → Duplicate To… and select the target project. You can do that either with a single layer, with multiple selected layers and even with whole groups.
All set volume levels and volume envelopes will be duplicated too, but envelopes will not be active in the duplicate automatically, you have to manually turn them on as needed.
Not the most efficient method, but still a valid method to combine projects without loosing the ability to adjust things later. At least I am not aware of a better solution.
As long as both projects have the same settings (sample rate, channels) there should be no issues with the duplication. A test with mismatching sample rates still gave me correctly adjusted duplicated layer envelopes, but group envelops were timed wrong. Tested with SL Pro 11.0.70 and SL Pro 12.0.0.
Might be something to look into, @Robin_Lobel .

@Laturec ok, thanks for that! I will give it try
OK, thanks @Laturec I just tried this and it works!
That’s great, but why on earth this is not mentioned in the Owners Manual?
Anyway, I’m glad there is a solution
I needed this today…thanks forum
hmmm, I’m only getting “new project” as a target slp in both SLP 11.0.70 and 12.0.20…these steps really need to be outlined well somewhere…probably buried in a SB video?
hang on…
OK, what is required to make this "Layers> Duplicate To…” function work is that whatever the slp jobs user wants to combine have to be open in SLP to appear as a target destination in the dialog drop-down…otherwise SLP is not aware of the other slp jobs and just prompts to create a “New Project”
