Metronome - has no sound

Hi, using Cubase 12 on Windows 10 with a Focusrite Scarlett.
My metronome has no sound? I recently fixed audio import preview so I could hear a preview of the sample I was importing by going to Studio/audio connections/control room. (in/out Focusrite USB)
But now the metronome is silent. If I set it to my internal soundcard, there is a delay which makes it impossible to use. Any idea what I can do to preview samples and run the metronome? Thanks!

Do you have Control Room enabled? If so, check if the metronome is muted within the Control Room panel.

Wow, thanks to both of you for bringing this up and posting the solution!! For years I’ve thought the only way possible to hear the metronome was by connecting the audio device in the ā€˜Outputs’ panel and therefore disconnecting it from the control room. I never noticed that second ā€˜Activate Metronome Click’ button in the CR panel before! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I know this post is a little old, but I had the same problem, but I NEVER use control room and yet the ā€˜Active Metronome Click’ button was de-activated. So, why does this happen? Moreover, the little icon on the transport control bar was showing the metronome was activated before I went into the control room.

Hi,

If you are not using Control Room, open the Studio > Audio Connections > Outputs. Right-click the wanted output and enable the Main Mix. The metronome is going to be routed here.

Hi Martin,
a have the same problem, no metronome sound, did as you describe, but still no sound, what is wrong? some pics about the setup

Thank you

How funny this thread got bumped this morning, wish it would’ve happened yesterday when I ran into this exact issue hah.

I’ve never used Control Room until last month when I got my new Digiface USB setup. I figured out by setting up Control Room in one project, I didn’t have to go re-route all my ā€˜Stereo Outs’ from my old MOTU to the RME in all my projects heh.

Went to record something last night, and was like WTF IS MY COUNT IN CLICK?? Could not for the life of me figure it out and thought I was about to have to patch a couple of outputs in just for a 2 bar count in. About ready to give up and I decided to open the Control Room panel and noticed the little metronome icon…

Hi, do you mean the small metronome left down?

Nothing happen…still not playing

apologie this image

Click where it says levels and make sure the slider is turned up. Then if you don’t hear it do you see the meters in that image move with the click (you can mute stereo out if there’s other tracks in the meter)

Also just to be sure…you do actually have other audio playback ok??

Yeah thats the button. By default I think the level sliders should be at 0db, at least mine were yesterday. I didn’t have to do anything aside from turn the button on. I worked on the same project for a good 5 hours or so yesterday, at one point it seemed to have disabled itself, but that may have been me playing with the hotkeys for the metronome?? Went back in, reenabled the button and then made sure its set to only click during the count in and its all working as it should now.

Go to the Studio menu and open up the Audio Connections window.
Post a screenshot of the Outputs and the Control Room pages for us to check out…

Hi Grim,

many thanks, it works!!
