MIDEX 8 Compatability with Atari ST

I know that the MIDEX 8 will not work with an ST as it is USB.

Would it work with my ST if I fitted a GoTek USB conversion to the floppy drive on my Atari?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Steve.

There’s going to be no driver on the ST for usb midi…even if the gotek was actually adding usb support to the computer which I don’t think it’s really is.

Thanks Grim

I thought it was a long shot.

Shame really, as Steinberg championed the ST in the early days of Pro 24 and Cubase 2 because of the great Atari MIDI clock.
I realise I am an old fart, but thanks for the advice mate.

I am running a lot of legacy outboard early 1990’s gear. So I will have a look on eBay for a couple of Midex 3 units.

Thanks again for your advice.

Cheers Grim

I seem to remember there were multi port midi expanders that connected to the printer port at the time though we always just used the built in port with the Philip Rees midi thru boxes to mult out to the dozen or so bits of kit we had.

Thank you guys for this little trip in the time machine, and good luck with this pre-pre-vintage gear!
The Atari ST was once my dream machine in my Apple-II years…
(also used a Coco2, a Ti-99 and a C64 before jumping to a 286 PC… all complex and expensive gear that did only a tiny fraction of what my wrist watch can do today…)
