Midi and audio not in sync 2.2.100.558

Very simple project: one song with 6 waw files, approx 3mn length (backing track). Tempo 120, files are corretctly aligned on the grid, I tried to use the internal metronome. Gradually out of sync after few measures, less than 1mn.
Okay, so I used a layer with a very light drum plugin and wrote a midi click track inside VL: still out of sync after few measures.
restarted the whole project from scratch several times, changing buffer size and sample rate on my interfaces (Quantum H2): same results.
Maybe too long files can’t keep in sync with midi nowadays? After all, who am i to try to play 3minutes files in 2026? I tried to split my audio files to less than 1mn each, and removed 2 tracks. I ended with 4 audio tracks splitted in segments and a midi clic track. It worked so/so for the sync, but now some of my tracks are not playing, in a random way!! Only solution: quit and relaunch.
And pray  .
Another one: while playing, If I dare to use undo after splitting a track, I got the punition: track stop playing, and decide to play again…or not, depending on the weather maybe?
After 2 days of trial and horror, I hesitate between taking a good laugh and have a cigar, or just desinstall the whole unusuable thing. As I’m not a smoker…
By the way: same Asus ROG, 16 GO ram, running same project on Cubase 15: fine, no sync problem, even with more tracks.

Hi! Can you try latest v2.2.102 version?

Hello! just tested 2.2.102 with the same tiny project. Can’t tell about the sync, because first thing I noticed: VL not playing randomly some track. First launch, didn’t play track 4. Exit VL, relaunch, didn’t play clic track… Exit Vl, relaunch, clic is playing and track 4 also: hurrah!!! But now track 2 won’t play…
Tried a bunch of exit and relauch, still some randomly unplayed tracks. And when a track don’t play, there is nothing I can do (mute/unmute, solo, move) to make it play again, except exit VL…

Made some testing again. It’s just getting worse. After undo on a track split, some other track which was playing won’t play anymore. After split on the midi click track, events are not shown in the main track view, but sometimes play, and stop sounding for no reason, and then sound come back for a few clicks, eventually…

Totally disapointed with this promising piece of software wich was supposed to fullfil my dreams…Just becoming a nightmare.

Last try: I tried to convert my files to match my device frequency (44.1 or 48)
Files @48k and devcie@48K, less drops, better sync, midi click track still sometimes missing at the start of the song, but if I stop and start, sleepy click is returning to life. Audio files seems stable.
More hiccups with files@44.1 k and device@44.1k, audio files sometimes not playing.
Files@48k and device @44.1: total mess …
I guess some other did notice this too.

That is very unlikely.

We did discover a problem with the new sample rate conversion though, which may loose a sample (and then some) after a while, we are on it. But if device and file sample rates match, ther should be no such issue.

today another run with both files and device @48k. All seems fine, audio and midi are in sync on 2 devices (X18 and Quantum). I’ll stay @48k for my projects and do some conversion when needed (Cubase does it for me ;). I know on-the-fly conversion can be touchy for perfect sync. Apart from the solution you’ll certainly find for the “lousy/lazy samples”, maybe an advice to put in the manual: “try to keep same rate for all your files” could save some headaches.
Some other bugs noticed, but I’ll open another thread.

We rather fix the issue

But you do raise a point: if “Quality” is preset for rate conversion, it does consume some more audio processing CPU. But that should only be noticeable with large amounts of audio tracks.
