MIDI configuration Help

Here’s what I’m trying to accomplish. I’m a total noob, so I apologize if I’m using the wrong terminology.

I have Cubase LE AI 13. I’d like to have a track where I can use my keboard to play a selected sound and have it record to the track. I’m reading that I should select a VST and try to map that to my MIDI controller. This is where I’m stumbling. I’m on a Mac and have an iRig MIDI 2 connected by USB. I have installed the iRig software. In my studio setup, I can see the MIDI Remote - IK Multimedia iRig MIDI 2. It’s there. For the track, I’m trying to test with a Halion VST instrument. I’m dragging the VST Instrument to a track. From there, I have monitor and record enable both turned on, but I get no sound when I play on my keyboard. What am I missing?

Hi and welcome to the forum,

MIDI Remote is here to be able to control Cubase from your hardware in sense of controlling the Transport functions (Start, Stop, Record, etc.), the MixConsole (to be able to mix), etc. If you want to record MIDI data to the track, you don’t need MIDI Remote. In this case, remove your MIDI Remote Device.

Add an Instrument Track (HALion Sonic SE), make sure, the MIDI Input is set to All MIDI Inputs or IK Multimedia iRig MIDI 2. And start recording.

Thank you. I have an instrument track added (Fusion Hybrid Piano). I have the MIDI input for that track set to “all MIDI Inputs” but I’m not getting any sound or seeing any levels when I play the keys. Screenshot attached.

Hi,

Could you attach a screenshot of the Studio > Studio Setup MIDI Ports Setup, please?
