Midi controller keyboard and integration with Cubase 12 Pro

That is a very creative approach and I can see it avoids compromising on the quality of the keyboard. Can I ask how you found the setup procedure between the Korg and Cubase, and how you have found working with it?

Hi,

I can support @mauro.carucci approach. I do the same. It’s better to don’t make a compromisses here. If you find a great keyboard for you, use it. Don’t skip it just because the DAW controller of the keyboard doesn’t work for you. And if you find great DAW controller, use it; don’t skip it, because it has other keyboard.

KORG nanKontrol 2 is fully integrated in Cubase 12. There is factory MIDI Remote script available. You can use it, or you can change the setting, or add your own pages, as you wish.

Thanks Martin, I appreciate your comments/advice.

I have the impulse 61 set to HUI mode. I don’t have any problems. Faders, buttons, rotaries, pads (and of course the keys) all work. I’m happy with it.

Hi,

HUI protocol is very, very old. It was replaced by the Mackie Control protocol (after some years), which is mush better (even though still very old).

Though it does still offer some functionality missing from the new midi remote. Oh well, hopefully, these will be handled in an update, right?

The integration between NanoKontrol2 and Cubase is immediate through the Midi remote controls (use is very simple).
I confirm that even if I wanted to redesign my home studio, I would invest much more money on the physical qualities of a keyboard (material, dynamics, balancing, weighting, etc.) than on its ability to control the various parameters via midi…

In addition I think that when working at home, the settings of the various midi parameters are done with the computer mouse. I only use the nanokontrol2 when playing live.

Again, my thanks to the contributors so far for feedback and advice. It has helped refine my list of needs as follows:
I am looking for a controller to enhance workflow of my modest home studio.
I am looking only for basic transport controls to improve ease of recording and faders to assist with mixing.
I’m hoping to improve workflow but not at the cost of creativity.
I have little need of controlling parameters of virtual instruments and/or effects.
Of the controllers I’ve seen so far the Korg NanoKontrol Studio looks to be the most appealing, but I’m still a little concerned as to how easily it works with Cubase 12 Artist. Any words of comfort or warning out there?

Hello all, I am planning a home studio for my looming retirement and recently purchased the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88 Mk2, Maschine Mk3, and Komplete Audio 6 Mk2 Retailer had some items on sale, free headphones and 2 year free warranty. I went with the ā€œEco Systemā€ for compatibility sake. I had every thing tested and working until recent updates caused the NI software to not update or install. Followed all trouble shoot advice but still no responce except an auto reply email 5 days ago with the ticket#. I am new at this so I wanted to learn basics with their apps, but now i am glad I purchased Cubase 12 with the hardware as it is advertised to be fully intergraded. Tomorrow I will set up the equipment in midi mode and start learning Cubase. I’ll post an update as to how it went.

Does anyone have experience with how Cubase works with M Audio Key Rig?
