Hi,
I’m really struggling to get my new Arturia Keylab 88 MK2 to do what I need it to do.
I can manually use the “Learn CC” command on the Vst interface and everything works as it should - Sliders controls QCs.
But this is not reflected in the movment of the QCs in the Inspector, they remain static - when I use the control sliders on the KL88 - even though the inspertor QCs do have the correct labels for what is being controlled.
And, when I move the QC knob in the Vst interface - using the mouse - it *does move the QC indicator in the Inspector. Very odd, yes?
Further, all I really just want is to be able to assign the Controller so that the 8 Sliders automatically work with whatever Vst is currently being edited, without having to re-assign them to each instument/effect every time, and I’m having no success doing this.
Note -I have tried setting up a Midi Remote, but that doesn’t seem to do anything that I can tell, even though I think I have it set up correctly.
And there is also an Arturia midi control app that I have set up, so I know the hardware is setup to do what it is supposed to be doing with all of this.
Could one of you midi guys please set me straight on how to get all of this to work?
Thanks Tons…
Hi,
There are 3 Quick Controls concepts in Cubase:
- Track Quick Controls
- VST Quick Controls
- Focus Quick Controls
In the Inspector, you can see the Track Quick Controls only. On top of the plug-in window, you can see the Focus Quick Controls (if you show it). And the VST Quick Controls are available in the VSTi.
Ya, I get all that. Have experimented extensively with them to not much success.
The problem as defined is - how to make the QC in an instrument automatically default to the 8 sliders on the KL88 controller so I don’t have to re-assign them everytime I load a new instrument inside, say, Halion 7.
So, by manually left-clicking on the QC knob in, for example, Navia Harp, I can assign the KL88 sliders to the Navia-specific QC controls no problem.
But I still need to understand how to make the KL88 sliders the default for QC control system-wide, globally in every vst / vsti, by default. It’s not really difficult, but during experimenting with many programs and having to reset the QC/Sliders it’s very time consuming, and really disruptive to workflow.
And on top of all of this,
The in-instrument specific QC knobs work when assigned to KL88 sliders, but when the slider turns the knob, there is no equivalent visual movement of the QC slot control lines (the graphic value colored lines) in the Inspector…however…
when I merely turn the in-instrument specific QC knob - with a mouse instead of a slider - in the in-instrument plugin, say Navia interface inside Halion7, the QC slots graphics actually DO move…it’s a very mysterious thing that Inspector values move when the mouse is used, but not when the KL88 sliders are used.
Hi,
Do you use MIDI Remote, or how do you control the Quick Controls? And most importantly, what type of the Quick Controls do you control then?
I want to be able to setup the KL88 as a midi remote, but I haven’t gotten it to work right yet. There is a script for it floating around the forum, but that was deeply complicated and I couldn’t get it to do what I needed. I attempted to make one from scratch. All the graphics and assignments are in place…I think…doesn’t seem to have any effect on my situation though.
As for how I currently control quick controls, I manually asssign all 8 sliders to the QC “knobs” inside the instrument ie: Navia, via the QC panel below the instrument, in Halion 7. This still allows me to use the sliders on the KL88 as QC controls in the instrument. That part works.
But when I switch instruments from Navia to HSO, I have to re-assign, by using “left-click and choose ‘Learn CC’” on each QC ‘knob’.
I’m unable to assign QC via the Inspector, like I could with my old MAudio keyboard. (that thing worked perfectly for all of this, but sadly I no longer own it).
I haven’t gotten the Focus Controls to work at all yet, so I don’t use them.
