MIDI Cycle Record Mode "Mix" (Merge) is essential

Subject: Feature Request: MIDI Cycle Record Mode “Mix” (Merge) is essential!

Message:

To the VST Live Team,

Please implement the MIDI Cycle Record Mode: “Mix” (Merge) functionality known from Cubase.

The Problem:

Currently, cycle recording in VST Live 3 either replaces data or creates new Lanes.

For live looping performances, Lanes are unusable. We need true “Sound-on-Sound” overdubbing into a single MIDI part.

The Use Case:

Building a drum loop live (Kick → then Snare → then HiHat) within one running loop/clip.

Without this “Mix” mode, VST Live cannot be used as a serious MIDI looper. Please add this to unlock the full potential of VST Live 3!

Thanks.

Use Cubase for that and export to VST Live.

I perform live with my analog instruments and drum machine and want to play everything live. Unfortunately, this isn’t possible with VST Live because after one loop iteration, the entire recording disappears.Try this: create a 4-bar loop and play a bass drum via MIDI. The bass drum will be recorded, but after one loop it disappears and is no longer audible. This is unusable for a live session. If this small feature were implemented, VST Live would be the most powerful live looping tool ever for me… Goodbye Ableton Live

I love VSTL very much, but might not say [quote=“Frank_Mueller, post:3, topic:1020153”]

as Ableton is made especially for looping/patterns/DJsessions, no?

For this purpose, I think you should try Mobius Looper, a free audio and Midi VST looper with really great features despite an ugly UI. It can be inserted in Stacks for audio looping, and use virtual ports to record Midi.

VST live can do this even much better in my opinion and it has integrated lighting and you can connect an LED wall and screening the lyrics….
