Midi editing help please

HI there
Im using Cubase 12 Artist
Something is occurring that Ive not had before. Maybe someone has had the same issue and can help me understand what is happening.

So I will try explain:

I record a midi piano from bar 1 to 7 …and then I record another piano part on the same track., and I want the new part to come in on bar 5…I would just shorten the first part to end on bar 5, and move the new part into place on bar 5. Now, if I glue the two parts together, the “new” part now includes the original piano notes on bars 5 and 6, even if muted. thereby making the new midi part quite confused on those two bars.
This never used to happen before so I’m wondering if there is something I have not switched off that is making this happen.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Just shortening the part doesn’t remove the notes that are there. If you want to remove the notes it’s best use the scissor tool to cut at bar 5 and then remove the part from bar 5 till the end.
Or you could go into the midi editor remove the notes you don’t want.

Hi,

There are two different ways of cutting a MIDI Part in Cubase.

If you resize the MIDI Part, it’s a non-destructive cut. So the MIDI data remain even behind the border. If you would extend the MIDI Part later, you can see the data again.

If you use the Cut (Scissors) tool, this is a destructive cut. The MIDI data behind the MIDI Part border are gone.

I believe, you want to use the 2nd way.

Many thanks
