Midi editor - different part colours

In the midi editor when working with different parts at the same time (e.g. violin and viola) it would be handy to have an option to display them in different colours from each other to help tell them apart, from within the editor without having to go out to the project page and colourise the part beforehand. Maybe this could be an option (colour by velocity, colour by note etc).

Hi,

You can select the colors in the Event Colors by:

Btw, we have 5 “MIDI Editors” in Cubase:

  • Key Editor
  • Drum Editor
  • List Editor
  • In-Place Editor
  • Score Editor

It’s always better to mention, which one do you mean.

So

  1. I go into the key editor
  2. Select different instrument/midi tracks from the left view track inspector thing
  3. Select event colour by part
  4. Issue - everything looks the same colour because it’s using the track colour
  5. Workaround - I temporarily close the key editor, manually change the colour of the tracks or events to differentiate them, reopen the key editors, make the changes I need, and once I’m done go back to the project view and changing it back to the original colour.

The ‘Colour by Part’ view is only useful of the tracks or parts are different colours. It would be useful if there was an option to show different tracks or parts automatically with different colours rather than inheriting the colour of the track or part from the project view.

Hi,

Fix: Change the Event Colors to Channel, or use unique color per Part/Track (what is very useful in general).
