Midi external output and play internal instrument

Is it possible to have a built-in or plugin instrument loaded but also route the midi out to an external midi controller?

So far no luck.

What are to trying to achieve?

Route midi out of the ipad to a midi controller (Launchpad) but still play internal Dorico instruments.

So far I can only do one or the other.

I haven’t used Dorico for iPad, but if I wanted to do that in Elements I think I’d have to duplicate a track, send one copy to the VST and one copy to external MIDI.
