I’m a new Dorico user. I am using M-Audio KeyRig 49 for MIDI input which is working fairly well. Only 1 problem - Dorico doesn’t recognize any keys E4 or higher (middle C being C3), limited the The keyboard works fine in other programs (Finale, GarageBand) so I don’t think it is the keyboard that is the issue.
What instrument are you playing into? Perhaps the higher notes exceed the instrument’s range.
Of course, if one is playing into a piano instrument, the disappearing notes would indeed signal a problem.
I’m inputting into a piano part. Same issue with inputting into a violin part. I’m missing the highest 6th of the keyboard, still very much in the range of both instruments
What about lower range, how low does your keyboard go with current settings?
With keyboards that have very limited key span, there’s usually a hardware function to transpose their output to cover various portions of the normal 88-keyboard range. But tbh I’m not sure if there’s anything special about how Dorico is interpreting whatever portion of the range your keyboard is sending versus Garage Band, etc.
Hi all - thanks for the advice. I’ve double-checked and it is definitely a hardware issue on the KeyRig 49. The top range (E5-C6) doesn’t send a signal. The lower portion of the KeyRig is functioning just fine. There must be a short in the circuitry. This isn’t a Dorico issue. Thankful for work-arounds to get into proper octave: in Dorico the opt-cmd-arrow and on the KeyRig the octave switches. But it may be time to purchase a new midi-keyboard!
BTW - I am enjoying learning the program. I am appreciative of the fluidity of input methods: MIDI keyboard to computer keyboard and back without changing “input modes”.
