Midi track volume on start

If I start a midi track where I have set a volume value with the volume slider in which controls the volume of an external midi instrument, the latter does not set the assigned volume. While if I move the slider this has an effect on the external instrument which sets the volume to the required value. Where am I going wrong?

The volume setting is sent at the same time as the program change when a Part is first activated.

Try enabling “Chase Events” and “Chase Events On Start” in Preferences, MIDI.

Chase Events and Chase Events On Start are enabled but dont work.

Are you on the latest version?

What exactly do you mean by that?

When?

Track volume (and other track controls, and for all media tracks, not just MIDI) is updated exactly once, when a Song becomes activated. There is no provision to update any track control at a specific position, if that is what you mean; for that you need to apply automation, or MIDI track with action values.

  • new project
  • add midi track, assign output (watch with MIDI Monitor)
  • set volume to 100
  • add Song (selects Song 2)
  • select Song 1: MIDI volume 100 is beeing sent.
  • select Song 2
  • select Song 1: MIDI volume 100 is beeing sent.

when press play on sequencer at start moment

why should it send volume then, when nothing has changed?

I have external instruments connected via MIDI with multipresets.
Sometimes I use them without VSTLive and adjust the volume of some MIDI
channels associated with their respective sounds.
Then, when I start VSTLive, where each track has a MIDI channel with a
preassigned volume visible in the track control sidebar, I expect that,
when playing the song, the software will automatically send these volume
values to the respective MIDI channels, but this does not happen.
However, if I manually adjust the volume slider, the change is
immediately applied to the sound of the preset of the connected instrument.

As you navigate to a new song, VL will send the values. Can you try this and confirm?

And that happens when the Project has been loaded, and whenever that Song is (or becomes) selected. Make sure your device is ready to receive MIDI messages before you open the project, and if you miss to do so, select a different Song, and back.
