The record will not stay engaged on my MIDI instrument track, though my keyboard can play the VST instrument. Record will not stay engaged…and both the Midi in and Midi out meters are lit all the way??

Sounds like you may have a MIDI feedback loop. Not sure why record will not stay enabled. Could be related.
Are Punch In and Out activated? Are the Locators set to the same position?
