Missing an overdub mode

Hey, I think it is great that it is possible to record over an already existing MIDI track

I can then drag the overdubbed track to another MIDI track…

…cut out the overdubbed part of the old record and insert the new record where the old one was:

The disadvantage is that I still here the part that I want to cut out and that I need to use a lot of tools in order to quickly overdub a MIDI record while recording…

My question or request is: Could it become possible to actually get an overdub function for the track records so that you can pre-select the time in the timeline that you want the MIDI record to be overdubbed, activate the overdub function and VST Live allows you to quickly re-record this part of the track without hearing what you were playing before?

In Samplutude or Ableton Live you could select two markers, one at the position where the overdubbed record shall begin and one where it shall end. Then it did only record this position and automatically removed the old record.
I think that Ableton even integrated a function to severally record the part to be dubbed and lets users choose which version to keep.
I don’t need as much comfort as Ableton is providing here. But to be able to set a start and an end marker and to activate such an overdub function would be very handy I think.

Recording functions in VST Live are optional and for simple tasks only. Use a dedicated DAW for more sophisticated recording.

That’s sad… VST Live is my DAW of choice as it combines so many great functions! Would pay more for a pro pro edition, if it had this option available…

The pro pro version exists, it’s called CUBASE 14 :sweat_smile:

Seriously, VST live is a LIVE performing software.

Download a trial of any version of cubase, work here to set up your songs, backing tracks, instruments etc etc, when ready bounce your tracks to final audio tracks, export as a VST live project, then import all your finished songs to a fresh new VST live project… fine tune here, add your live VST instruments, your live audio inputs set up your effects, automations live, mixer, lights, lyrics etc, and you have a finished live gig programmed!

I do this for 2 bands and it works perfectly!!

Cheers, Ciro.
