Missing "Duo" Option in Dorico 6 Instrumentation

I wanted to point out that in the current instrument grouping or ensemble model, there doesn’t appear to be a “duo” option available. While there are categories for solo, trio, quartet, etc., a duo configuration seems to be missing or unsupported.
It would be helpful for those of us working with small chamber groups if a duo option were added in a future update.

Welcome to the forum, @Renato_De_Aguiar, and thanks for your feedback. Which particular combinations do you think would be especially useful? I have always taken the view that it’s tricky to have templates for solo instruments or pairs of instruments because there are so many possibilities, and they’re typically very quick to create from scratch anyway, but of course it would be helpful to be able to have some other Layout Options etc. set appropriately in those cases too.

Similar to the violin and piano duo, it would make sense to offer a blank duo template and once it’s launched, the composer, musician, or copyist can load the instruments they need.
Thank you very much for taking the time to consider my request.

After several tries, I think it would be useful to have a “Duo” template — even an empty one — where we can simply load the instruments we need.
At the moment, under “Choose a template” in Dorico 6, we see options like: Chamber, Choral, Empty, Jazz, Orchestral, and Solo.
It would be helpful to have a Duo option as well — or at least, in the “Empty” template, to have the ability to display two instruments by default, each on its own staff and not sharing one.

Thanks again for your work and your attention to user feedback!

Are you asking for something different than just starting a new project based on the Empty template and then adding the two instruments you want?

Ideally, there would be a Duo template, and as soon as we select it, two staves would appear automatically — one for each player — and then we could simply choose the instruments we want for the duo.
It would make the process faster and more intuitive, especially for users who regularly work with two instruments.

Thanks again for taking this into consideration!

I guess I don’t see how this is any faster than what I suggested above – you’re still creating a new project from a template and then choosing two instruments. But maybe I’m missing something.

Oh, I’m just a user, like you. You can tell the Steinberg employees by the logo in their avatars.
