Missing Dynamic Start and End Position Markers

Hi All

In some of the projects I have I am missing the dynamic end and start markers that display exactly where the dynamic connects to the grid - very helpful.

I have them in other projects but not the one I’m working on and so I guess it’s a project based setting instead of a system wide preference.

Can anyone point me to the configuration setting that turns them on please?

James

Can you please upload that portion of your project.

I’m not sure that’s necessary - how will that help?

Well, it will help a great deal if it’s just this project where the issue appears. We can investigate it directly without going back and forth a million times.

You don’t need to upload the whole project - just the few bars around the hairpin.

  1. In the affected projects, check in the View menu that Attachment Lines is ticked.

  2. Sharing a project gives other users a chance to do some detective work (saving you the trouble). Many users relish the challenge of finding the cause of a problem.

Wait… View > Attachment Lines :joy:

I did think of this myself before you posted it!

That’s it! Brilliant.

I knew it was a simple fix.

If I can avoid it I prefer not to upload a project file.

Thanks @StevenJones01

Most often, all that is needed is a small portion of the project - enough to demonstrate the problem.
On a copy of the project (to protect the original) delete either the complete bars surrounding the portion being submitted, or just the contents (leaving blank bars) and, if the music is confidential, under copyright, etc., replace the remaining notes with something else - it can be “any old rubbish” as long as the issue being investigated is still present.
There are some very experienced and knowlegeable Dorico users on this forum, and they generally are able to solve the problem in a very short time if they have “hard evidence” to work on. Sometimes, descriptions are not quite enough, even if accompanied by screenshots. I have seen topics where there have been many, sometimes dozens, of messages back and forth trying to narrow down the specifics of the situation, all of which takes time.

And then the project is posted and quickly solved in the next reply.

@StevenJones01 and @DanielMuzMurray.

I use this forum fairly regularly and try and add value where I can. I understand when the best time to upload a project file for help is required, thanks all the same.

I was pretty confident that the issue did not require a project file upload this early in the problem solving. I am a pretty good user of Dorico (4 or 5 years +) and I don’t use all the corners of the project - except for expression maps.

Based on my years of experience with Dorico I knew this was a fairly simple issue that my mind was not thinking clearly on and I could not find the right configuration option for. And I was right, it was a simple issue where I was looking in the wrong place. Thanks again.

James

Based on my experience on this forum since before Dorico was released and reading almost every message, I have never seen a complaint that someone’s file was appropriated or misused.
