Missing font(s)

I just closed and reopened a project in Dorico 5, and now I’m getting the Missing Fonts dialog saying I’m missing the Petaluma Script font in Bold. Not sure where that font is supposed to be used because I can’t get the columns in the dialog window to widen so I can see what’s after “Paragraph Style…” under Used By. This is the first time I’ve gotten this dialog for a project created in Dorico, so I don’t know if there are any other missing fonts (or why I would be missing what seems like it would be a standard Dorico font)… Anyone have any insight into this issue and know how to find and install missing fonts? Thank you!

I believe this is because Petaluma Script doesn’t have a native bold version: it’s plain only. Therefore, if a font/paragraph style in the project is set to use the bold variant, you might see an approximation of that, but it’s not a “real” font variant.

This can happen when you change a/all fonts to use Petaluma, and at least one font/paragraph style that cascades down from the changed font(s) is set to be Bold.

The Missing Fonts dialog gives you the hint that this is a Paragraph Style – and if you drag between the columns, you should be able change their widths.

To add to Lillie’s excellent post: Many of the Font Styles and Paragraph Styles in Dorico ‘cascade’ from other styles. In other words, they are defined as “Like another style, but with these changes”.

If a style is defined as “Like the Default Text style, but Bold”, and the default text style doesn’t have a Bold, then you’ll see this error.

So, it’s not that there’s a missing font you need to install, but rather that you need to change the Styles to suit the fonts you’ve got.

Thanks so much, Lillie and benwiggy! That all makes complete sense. The only weird thing is that I started this project in this copy of Dorico and haven’t deliberately changed any fonts since setting up the score. This is the first time I’ve encountered this issue using Petaluma. The only anomalies I can think of are a “Solo” indication I added using shift-x, and a tempo change I made up and typed in using the Tempo popover. I tried deleting both of those markings and reopening the project, and also tried reentering the Solo as a tempo indicator in the Tempo popover. (Is that the right way to add that, by the way? I’m new to Dorico, but it seemed to work.) The error message is persistent, however. At any rate, it’s no big deal, and the score doesn’t look wrong to me. Thanks again!

You’ll need to see exactly which Font Styles or Paragraph Styles are listed in the dialog, and then have a look at the settings for them.

I’ll definitely try to do that, but I still can’t get the column to widen to show the full text of which Paragraph Style it’s indicating, even if I make the dialog window full-screen. I know tables usually allow you to resize the columns, but for some reason there doesn’t seem to be a way to do that in this one. It also isn’t showing me a “bubble”
(?) of the full text when I hover the cursor over it. But again, if the dialog keeps popping up for this one project it’s not a huge deal. Thanks again, I appreciate the help!

You can resize the columns by clicking and dragging in the column header at the top of the table.

Oh geez, of course! Oof. The headers are black and they may not have borders (?) so I was trying to drag the visible borders between the columns lower in the table. Thanks for setting me straight .
